The state runs a gambling ring itself.

The tribes own Casinos all over the country. Colorado, Kansas, Minnesota so on. There are more places around that are behind the scenes that most don’t know anything about.I know of 5 in Houston/ Pasadena area. That are supposed to be private Clubs. No cell phones allowed

I’m fairly certain that Abbott has nothing to do with this issue.

Legal matters filed in federal court are handled by the Attorney General, not the governor.

As it currently stands by both federal law and state law, the Alabama Coushatta Indians have no authority to run games that are prohibited in Texas.

I would love to see Texas get gaming but the Alabama Coushatta and the Tigua have no separate authority to run games unless allowed under Texas law.

….. and Abbott has nothing to do with it. He can campaign and say that he will veto any bill allowing gambling that comes cross his desk. He did the same kind of campaigning with gun rights. He said if they send me a pro-gun legislation, I will sign it, and he did.

Neighboring states that have legalized casinos don't want Texas to get into the Casino bidnez. They spend a lot of cash to lobby against Texas legalizing casino gambling. Think about how much bidnez they would lose if Texans didn't have to drive to OK or LA or even NM. Ever notice how close all these places are to the state line? Texas Churches are glad to take their money to help lobby against it. Talk about hypocrites!

              One name..
              Tilman Fertitta

When he is all you need to know about Texas and Casinos. When he is ready for Galveston to have a casino or somewhere else on the coast it will happen.

4 Years ago, when we where at the Golden Nugget, I actually payed attention to the number of Texas plates.. I bet it was 75%.. Those border casinos would go belly up without Texas money...

Yes, they don’t stop the action. They only stop who gets the profit.

I just did some quick research on transparencyusa.org and found that the Sands casino PAC has given 150K to Abbot, Patrick, and Dade Phalen this year.

Fertitta personally has given almost a million to Abbot.
                    The Chickasaw nation gave 300K

My uneducated guess, Tilman and the neighboring casinos are making sure Texas doesn't get legalized gambling.

Y'all can back off the Baptists now. They don't have any money anyway.

I just assumed the only reason we don't have large casino's here in Texas is from the lobbying coming out of Louisiana, which as someone mentioned above would severely hurt their casino's.
