The ponds that yall are growing them in, do you feed them at all? Ive got 4 small ponds that are really too shallow to be good for much else.

Also, do the gar go after them as bad as they do bream?
A guy I know that's really into raising mudcats said just keep them and fat head minnows in the pond to feed them. Also dye the pond blue to keep predators at bay cleaning you out especially the birds.

Yea we usually do bread, cubes and can dog food with holes punched in it.

Not a ton of gar in the Sabine where we fish. The trinity is the worst.

But yea muds stay on the line best I’ve seen.

Sabine River should be rolling this morning after all of yesterdays rain.
I bet yall hammer them. If my son was not running in the regional track meet tomorrow and Saturday I would be baiting a few lines myself.

Probably 75 hooks. Mixture of 3 hook and 1 hook limb lines.

Man those little mud cats stay alive on the line and make good baits but they have fins like hypodermic needles.

We spent an hour trimming them yesterday with wire cutters. That way we can bait easy once in the boat.

Smart man, only way to go if your baiting multiple hook sets.

If I got time I even give the perch a haircut before hand to make them easier targets. Did it for years on piggy perch to make them poor man’s croaker

Do you trim them right up against the fish, or just a 1/2" or so to get the point off?
