The OP mentioned choosing where to live. I hear gun shots almost every weekend at my house. Either from the guys on a small range on property or the idiot AC repair guy shooting into the retention pond ****

Relax! They just shooting fish coming over the spillway.
Or the Ghetto is moving north reclaiming it's territory.
Whiterock been going ghetto for years now. Ain't safe for anyone to walk those trails or ride a bike.
Every free access lake park around Dallas is taken over every weekend by mostly illegals. That's why a lot of the parks have been leased to private marina companies that charge to enter and use. Cities don't want to police these areas because of the cost so they are turn over to private companies. Grapevine lake is mostly all private now to cut down on outside traffic. Lewisville too. Joe Pool not so much. Can't stir them with a stick out there on weekends.

Well if Dallas did like Austin and lost a good portion of their police Force because of City Council and Mayor decisions (Voters Choice) then here is the issue. Due to lack of manpower calls have been adjusted- calls like this with no victim or act of violence are now (General Broadcast) or at best a very low priority(roll by when someone gets a chance). Manpower is to the point in Austin to where they don’t send Officers unless there is an act of violence taking place. Suspicious persons in yards don’t even get police response anymore.
So the response time you got was not bad at all. As far as what they found there is probably nothing reported- Officer drove by scene and no suspect there. Even if there are 100s of rounds of spent brass from someone shooting what do you want them to do? And for a crime equivalent to a traffic ticket is what we are talking about

To clarify a few things-- once they actually put the call in the queue and the desk officer prioritized it we did get a timely response- but that took over 20 min.
I think its shameful that 9x 911 calls (of the ones I know of) basically went ignored by dispatch when they received accurate, timely and credible (off duty LEO) information.
This wasn't 4th of July or other holidays where celebratory gunfire (or fireworks) are all across the city. This was a normal saturday night at 9pm (not late and not an uncommon time for there still to be people to be at and around the lake, the WRL shopping centers etc. Not to mention all the homes, apartments, businesses in proximity to that parking lot.
As far as the offense-- yea I guess if you want to be simpleminded maybe all you have is discharge in a municipality or at best a deadly conduct because of all the homes, businesses, etc. Neither of which are tickets fyi.
But- if you think about the type of person who is willing to sit there and crank off rounds for over 20 min at 9pm on a Saturday there is probably plenty of other criminal activity that is afoot and that would certainly make contacting those folks worth it.
Lastly- Northeast Division has more than 10 officers on a Friday night working and that is how many were assigned to calls at the time this occured because DPD has an active calls website that shows location, type and # assigned.

For the guys that live in Dallas I’ll reiterate; make the calls, encourage others to report and call and call your substation dont just settle for “thats how it is here”

If your Police Department is full strength your Cala should be to Chief’s staff. If your Dept is underpowered your calls should be to the Mayor and City Council.
As far as moving- it’s true we chose to live here; proximity to our jobs and family mattered and it’s the best place to be for DISD. However; Dallas is Dallas, the crime rate and poverty levels change literally block by block. My wife works from home now for a different firm so our calculus may be changing.

Def not the norm in Lakewood; been in the area 5 years now and aside from the holiday gunfire this was a new “range” to me!
