The wife and I headed out about 5 this evening to search for crappie. Went to a few places people had luck at and checked a shallow brush pile with no luck. Only one small bass caught. Went to another spot and finally caught a few…. This spot was about as far from the ramp as we could get. We packed up right at 9 only to find out battery was dead and the motor wouldn’t start. Go figure. Thankfully it was a smaller lake and only 1.2 miles back to the ramp via the trolling motor. Wind was out of the SE and we were in a NW heading!
There were a few folks camping close by who helped me get it on the trailer. It would have been a chore with just me and the wife with the winds picking up to a steady 20-25 mph. Weatherman was off again as it was only 10-12 mph per the forecast.

My husband and I went out with Hooker Harwell on Lake Conroe for our 24th wedding anniversary. We limited out (50 crappie) with some real slabs hitting the deck and a couple of huge sunfish and a channel cat. I think we only had five throwbacks total. We didn't have to measure many because most were so big there was no doubt they were legal. Not to mention that Hooker cleans your fish for you at no extra charge.
Sometimes it is worth it not to drag the boat across town, pay for fuel, and deal with cleaning fish and washing up the mess, boat and gear afterwards. Just let someone else deal with it and just have fun!
