Most of the high end pellets can hit 600° in the chamber. If you use grill grates they get even higher.

I didn’t even use the grill when I used charcoal.
it’s not what I would consider the right tool for the job.

That award goes to my Wagner Ware 11 cast iron skillet. Butter basted with aeronautics, and oven finished. THAT is how a steak should be cooked.

Killer Alton Brown recipe out there using cast iron and hot oven!

Prob the best steaks I’ve had.

Ovens are for cakes and biscuits!

I've used a skillet with good results....but nothing beats real mesquite coals!

Pretty steak, but why would anyone use a pellet grill for a steak? I’m looking at z grills for my next smoker. I had to buy an old masterbuilt electric smoker back when we lived in an apartment (apartment didn’t allow open flames).

I have grill grates for my Yoder and can get it as hot as I would ever want, but usually I’m too lazy to swap it over, so steaks get cooked over mesquite in the fire ring or over charcoal in the Old Smokey.

Why wouldn’t you? They do the same thing. Burn wood, make heat.

I could understand if you were talking about a gas grill.

I can't do a skillet steak to save my life. I've tried a few different recipes. They all look beautiful and smell amazing while cooking. When you take a bite it tastes like nothing but bland meat. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Lately I've been using the sous vide and finishing in the skillet with thyme and garlic butter. Pretty solid that way but I'd like to get a solid process in the skillet.

My camp chef gets plenty hot to sear a steak. Basically cooking over an open fire once you slide out the grate. I was worried it wouldn’t get hot enough to grill / sear but honestly have been very impressed with the pellet grill.
