Easy fix, just call the GW in the county that you want to shoot hogs in and ask. Too many armchair game wardens here to get a difinitive answer.

A GW once told me that if you shoot pigs & leave them lay, then no license, but if you take them, then license required. Also said if spotlight hunting, a courtesy call to the local GW was appreciated.

It depends if you call it killing or harvesting ....

Lots of answers & entertainment for sure

I initially read the TPWD regs & had multiple interpretations come to mind....will be best to contact the local GW

with landowner permission no license is required as invasive feral hogs are "depredating" by their very presence. Whether its planted agriculture fields or just destruction of native browse, its a low bar and easy definition to meet. It may come down to "beat the rap but you cant beat the ride" which would justify paying the $48 fee, but you'd definitely beat the rap in this case if you were to take it to trial.

                            Hunting License

A hunting license is required of any person, regardless of age, who hunts any animal, bird, frog or turtle in Texas (except furbearers, if the hunter possesses a trapper's license.) See Hunting Licenses and Permits.

No license is required for nuisance fur-bearing animals, depredating hogs or coyotes.
Non-residents under 17 years of age may purchase and hunt with the Youth Hunting License.

I'm not an attorney, but I've seen many on TV.

You asked if a non-resident needs a hunting license if they are hunting hogs.

The fact you are going on a hunt means you need the license.

Now, change up the scenario. You're visiting your In-laws who happen to own a 10K acre ranch. FIL asks your help with some nuisance hogs that are tearing up his field and destroying his crops. You don't need a license.

But as someone else said, call the Game Warden for that county and get clarification.

^ This. Farmers/ranchers can even shoot depredating game animals but they must leave them lay. They cannot keep any part of said animal and (if it’s a game animal) they would do best to inform the local GW afterwards to save him the trouble of starting an unnecessary investigation.

                                PLEASE,
Show me in the regs where this is FACT!!!! I haven't had one person that could show me yet. Why??? IT'S NOT IN THERE!!!
I could bring my friend down from Kansas, let him go to my hay pasture, day or night, and let him kill and skin all the hogs he wants, without a license!!!
Now, if he comes out to my other place where we run hog hunts, then I would suggest he buy the non game license. Pretty simple.
