Tough Spot for Chef as he and Friend are very close. Friend and the family are close as well. Just a bad situation all around.

Sorry Chef to speak up on this.... Just wanted to clarify.
I was not involved but have talked to Chef about this since I am close to both he and the friend.
That's what I figured was the case. Too bad for Chef and his friend, but he had to do it.

Ya, that's a key piece of info. I'd still bail and so would my buds! But it don't sound like their friendship was hunting based.

Tough situation to be in for Chef. I'm sure the friend understands, I'm just amazed at the emphasis that people will put on a **** deer. Also, I've been thrown out of a lot nicer places than a deer lease standing up for my friends.

I really hate that Chef was put in this situation though.

He messed up and should have offered to pay the price for a full spot on the lease for taking a buck. Friends are hard to find, deer are all around.
You made a decision that he already knew was coming when he fessed up i'm sure.
            Tough call.
I would have discussed it with all members and given the option to charge them for the buck as a spot or get off the lease. If he paid, then I would have put that towards all the other guys lease expense to make their following year cheaper.
Many possible solutions, but as long as everyone stays friends is the most important.

Agree with Tryton. Most of you guys either can’t read or don’t comprehend what you read. This was not his decision, but his message to deliver. And who knows how long it took the OP to get to hunt the land. The friend I hunt with now I was friends with for over 4yrs before he invited me out to his farm. So just because you are friends or family it is not an automatic invite.

How did the landowner find out?

Lease Boss should have made the call

On our lease, we would not kick off a member since they are allowed 1 buck. But it would apply as the members "only buck" for that year.

This thread, is a microcosm of what "deer hunting" has become.

The best post in this thread, and the most telling of what should be the reality, is the gentleman that had to listen, and provide comfort, as the doctor told his "best friend" that he has stomach cancer.

If I was forced to deliver that specific message, I'd do so, but as my "brother" packed up his gear, I would also be packing up mine.

It was ONLY a deer....not a deity, or some mythical creature, and in reality it is not even anything that is really all that special. It was only a deer, nothing more, and nothing less.

                        Best move you can make

Sure sounds like a justification for a wrong doing.

I would assume you don't own land yourself or are not on a good lease

                              This^^^

It is pretty impressive how many want to pass judgement or offer up their .02 without reading the entire OP.

                                That's because you don't have " brothers"!
