If you need to work extra hours do it in the mornings. Go home at 5 and enjoy time with friends and family and come back to work refreshed the next day.

Here are 3. One from my grandfather, one from a friend that I hauled hay for that was killed not too long after the conversation, and the third from a former boss.

"You seldom get fired for showing up early and working hard."

"John Boy I am pretty sure that at some point in life you are going to be someones boss. When you are just remember this....if you have an employee that does something where he needs to be fired, just fire him then. If you try to save him he is just going to do it again at some point in the future, so just fire him now and save everyone the time."

"Never become irreplaceable. If you do then you can never be promoted."

Good stuff. But I'd like to think that im an example that disproves the second one. [emoji12]

I worked at a True Value hardware store while in high school and the owner always told us "never argue with a customer" one day an elderly lady brought a small radio in that she recently purchased and told me she wanted to talk to the owner of the store.I escorted her to his office and she told him the radio was playing Mexican music and she wanted a new one.He took the radio from her walked out to the sales floor opened a new one plugged it in and tuned it to her station and said have a nice day...he practiced what he preached.

Take care of your customer or someone else will

Say what you are going to do and do what you say

You have from quitting time through the night into the next morning to be back here on time

"If your going to half *** something don't bother. Do it right or don't do it at all" I was told that over 20 years ago and still think about often.

My dad always told me, "don't believe anything you hear and only half of what you see".

My former boss retired and taught me a lot over 17 years. Everyone that knew him called him lucky in all his business ventures because he was successful. When i mentioned that to him years ago he said "Its a funny thing, the harder i worked at something, the luckier i became with it".

That always stuck with me because he was the hardest worker I knew even when he could have sat back and had other people do it.

Got a promotion at a previous job. First thing my boss told me about my new job and responsibilities:

                    You inspect what you expect.

There is no such thing as a crisis. Only opportunities.

Well....I was always told I was special in school. They even gave me my own little bus so the other kids wouldn't feel inferior.

                              Advice

May not seem like good advice but an ex Store Director at a box store once told me:

"Never apologize or say 'I'm sorry' to your superiors. Apology is a sign of weakness. Own up to your mistakes and never let them happen again. THAT'S your apology!"

Always have your replacement ready if you want to move up.
