That looks like a coon hunter. He may have been hunting a neighboring property and his dog ran on yours and he went and got it. That happens a lot nowadays. Didn't look like he had a gun with him so idk if you can really call it poaching.....and dogs don't know what fences are for, they do what they're trained for whether it's on the right property or not. And if that dog is like the female I'm hunting, there's no callin the dog back to you. You have to go and get him. Not all dogs are like that but a lot of them are

I could not imagine a poacher lifting a dog over a 8ft fence especially two of them, I would say its the trapper making his rounds and more than likely went through the gate.

So you think the dog jumped a high fence or two?

There is one place where the dog could go through a culvert under the fence but he would have to climb the fence or go through a pad locked gate.

And then the guy used the same hole and was disoriented, so he just kept on looking around?

I was managing a HF ranch that had a neighbor whose 3000+ acre ranch was also HF. During the daylight hours one day in Jan or Feb one year that neighbor caught a guy(with a rifle) looking for his dog. They had been running hogs on the LF ranch next door to his 3000+ acre HF ranch. The trespasser said his dog had gotten under the fence so he was looking for his dog(the dog owner was still carrying his rifle ). They finally found his dog a little later. The land owner was pizzed but finally let the guy go without turning him over to GW or sheriff. He did tell the trespasser that was his one warning and next time he would press charges.

So what are us hunters that hunt with dogs supposed to do if our dog crosses a boundary line? Every where I hunt they know me so it's not really a problem if my dog gets off the place I hunt. But when they do get off that 4000 dollars running around and that's just one dog. If my dogs cross a boundary I leave my gun in the truck or fence and go get them if I can't find a house to knock on the door and I get out as soon as I get them. so what's wrong with me not wanting to leave 4000 bucks in the woods and "hope" she finds her way back to the house?

So you have more rights to trespass since it is more about the money than the landowner has to keep trespassers off his land/investment? You could always call the GW or sheriff out to help you locate the landowner your dog is trespassing on to help you get your $4000 back I guess.

The only thing " WRONG" is the fact that without permission of the landowner, you are trespassing....period....doesn't make any difference why you are on the property...without the permission of the landowner.....you are trespassing...and charges can be filed on you.

I'd hope if you have a 4K dog running around you can afford the means to contact the land owner or have GPS on said dog.

Hope the trespasser spends some time behind bars.
