I believe it's possible for a true freshman to mentally be prepared to play center. He can learn the calls and how to pick up blitzes. Especially if he's got experience beside him.

Physically, even for an early enrollee I find it card to imagine him holding up at the point of attack. Maybe the new scheme is going to prevent him from going one on one a lot. Like I said, it's gonna be interesting.

Fortunately he has the size at 6'3.5" 296 LBs and a mean streak. Now if Moorer can add some strength to him and make enough of the weight good weight to be serviceable this year...

I know it was very unnerving when Joey Hunt was the starting center heading into the Big12. It was a for sure learning curve but the payoff in the end was great. I think he had one 'hurry' in 420 something chances this season as a senior. I think the new offense/scheme at Texas will help take some pressure off of the young center in the passing game. It's the run blocking that will be a bigger issue as it appears Texas will rely on the two big monsters quite a bit.

It seems like Charlie feels pretty safe with his job security. Gonna be an interesting season for sure.

Good to see him getting a chance, he was pretty bummed he didn't make it through the clearinghouse.

                You see this note.....

Charlie Strong spent 4 seasons at #Louisville. Sheldon Rankins becomes his 5th 1st RDer he recruited. Four arrived as “3-star” prospects.

I did see that as well as Mike Sherman having another 1st rounder that he recruited. That dude could find some talent.

Not really. The big boys are in the top 10-12. They win all the National Titles too. I posted data a while back that showed only a handful of times in the last 50 years did anyone that was not a top 12ish all time program win it all.

As an Aggie optimist, I think Jim Turner deserves some (hopefully most!) of the credit for Matthews, Joekel, Ogbuehi, Ifedi and Patrick Lewis. He's also been credited with discovering and recruiting a basketball player, Mike Evans, to play wide receiver at A&M. Of course, Turner was recently rehired as OL Coach.

Interesting analysis from Gruden about Ifedi's "poor technique" and playing from 2 point stance in A&M's system (questioning what they're doing over there.). Of course, I don't think he knew that Christianson's system has been replaced with Turner's, which hopefully will see more hands in the dirt.

Oh, he certainly does as does Van Malone, but Sherman has always been considered the OL guy. It is a big deal to have Jim back on campus.

Yup, Gruden likes to hear himself talk and he skewered the program.
