I work for a pretty established AV company in DFW, and all we sell is Samsung and Sharp.
Engineers will tell you all the rest are a a multitude of hodge lodge parts installed in a certain manufacturers housing.
Saying that, I have seen some really great resolution from other brands, but for dependability and length of service, Samsung and Sharp have the edge.

Look on cnet. 4K looks great on the showroom floor but is still a long way away from being main stream for TV providers so streaming may be the only way to watch it for several more years. Plasma is still better picture quality than LCD. If you go the energy efficient LCD route try to look for one with active backlight zones instead of one that just has a uniform backlight. I own a Samsung plasma and led-led and like them both. I also have a Vizio led-lcd and really nowadays you can get a lot of bang for your buck from a lot of manufacturers.

Picked up a Samsung from Sams a couple years ago and have been really pleased with it. I believe it's either 55 or 60" And me being technologically retarded, I just found out that it links to the Internet and all kinds of fancy stuff. Haha. Does make using YouTube and Netflix pretty convenient.
