They eat just like any other duck. We used to kill a whole bunch of them.

Those suckers can eat some corn. Started with a few of them randomly showing up occasionally and by mid-December there had to be over 100 of them looking for a free meal.

Legal to trap and sell? Where can you sell them?

I may have hit the lotto.

I too have always heard that the tree duck is the best eating duck except a teal.....and may folks put them over a teal.

But personally, I'm not a fan so that is secondhand info.

They are bottom feeders. Trash ducks, just like spoonies

Highly illegal to shoot them off a feeder... They are federally protected just like any other wild duck so be careful... limits on harvest too... Not tryin' to tell anyone what to do, but just want to give those who didn't know about their status as a migratory game bird... Personally, I hate 'em about as bad as coons, maybe worse. At least I can legally take the coons out when they get too bad...

The thing I find funny, is some people say certain ducks taste better than others. I've killed and eaten tons of ducks. And there is virtually no difference between any of them as far as taste goes. They eat the same things, they taste the same.

You better check up on your forage.......

Black-bellied Whistling-Ducks eat mainly plants, including smartweed, grasses, swamp timothy, amaranth, sedges, bindweed, and nightshade. They also eat many agricultural crops including sorghum, millet, corn, rice, and wheat. They eat a smaller amount of aquatic animals such as snails, insects, and spiders. They typically forage at night, leaving roosts at sunset to fly to foraging areas. They feed in fields or by dabbling in shallow ponds.
