Pretty good here for the second year in a row, lots of water and lots of acorns, kind of changed up here three years ago, our wood ducks are in odd places and we are killing mallards and pintails in our wood duck holes.

Yep, last 3 years we've had quite a few, and some teal as well.

Fairly common to work teal in the woods. A pintail actually working into the woods is super rare. I've never seen one do it in my life. That's cool

Three years ago I mounted the first pintail drake I shot out of this hole, it's family land and I had hunted here all my life and never even seen one. We have killed quite a few each of the last two years. Before 2012 if we shot more than 2 or 3 mallards a hunt we were lucky, last few years our 5 mallards are usually the first ducks to hit the water.

That's so strange. What is the hole like?

But ive been hunting HARD this year, and scouting, and when I find birds, it seems things change in a matter of a day or two. I mostly hunt lakes within 1 hr of DFW.

A buddy and me have been out twice and shot 6 first time and 3 the next. This was before the split though too. Looking at going again Monday. Temps have been all over the map and there's a ton of water for them to be on. Been a tough year to say the least.

You can shoot gadwalls and teals and other junk, but there's not many birds down according to AGFC aerial survey the other day. I think it said like 60% of normal and only like 1/2 ducks. Water is high, temps are high. No ducks, but really no surprise! Tooooooo warm.
Yep, the most recent AGFC report wasn't very exciting however it is to be expected with the warm temps. Never fails that you'll have water finally and yet no birds. I'll be in Wynne, Christmas through New Years but the forecast doesn't look to be changing much.

I hunted something like that yesterday in Corsicana. Saw about 50 birds on it the day before. Thought "man this is going to be lights-out". Then morning came, and they landed in the middle of the 15 acre pond and never moved.

Yeah man I sure did. I had my dog there when he was a pup. Been good. Moved up to DFW in 2010. Changed careers. Had a couple kids. Just need to find some birds now and life will be complete.
