Looks like you hit below the spine and above the lungs. My good friend hit one a few years ago like this. A quick follow up shot anchored him. While cleaning him, we found the first shot, did no damage.

        IMO,
1.deer will be dead very soon and is just one tough sob
        2.wrong deer
3.hit top of rib and went straight up the backstrap that is voided of vitals on the other side

Were you in a ground blind or tree stand?

How far was the shot? Thanks!

Might have been a 12 ring in 3-D meet .
shot was 25 yards from a ground blind and thats the entry wound

If he was in a ground blind looks like maybe an entrance. If he was elevated on the other side of the deer that looks like the exit.

No vitals. Above the spine looks like to me.

He'll be fine. You just skewered him... He's healing and up eating corn. They are amazingly hearty animals.

I hit this buck opening weekend pretty much in the same spot. The first pic is 5 days after the shot. The 2nd pic is from last Thursday.

I think the buck in the OP will be fine.

If that is entrance then I think you have to assume he was moving at the shot. Would not be suprised if exit is higher. I think if that is the case no vitals were hit. That could be pus dripping down. Ramcat should be a 3 blade hole and not a big two blade gash.

He didn't die....right away. He's dyin though. Deer aren't that skinny normally. Pretty easy to tell you killed it.
