Its true! I've lived here for 19 years and in all that time I have been invited to hunt on 3 different properties.
When I go back to western N.Y. to visit family I have several invites every time i'm up; occasionally from people I've never met before that weeks trip!
I wouldn't ask the "how many acres" question to a total stranger, but I don't even ask close family members how much money they make. Different things, in my opinion. I've asked lots of landowners how many acres they have, and I've been asked that quite a few times myself. I can't recall ever taking offense at the question, even when it was asked by a stranger.
I've heard that people get offended, but I ask anyhow
every time we go tracking, I want to know how dang big the place is so I can evaluate whether or not someone is likely to take a shot at my dogs if they cross a fence.
for the record, we've got 41.94 acres scattered across three states and five properties.
No livestock except for the dogs.
Planning to quadruple our vast holdings here in the near future
I'd like to get to the point where I can make folks do math when they ask how many acres we've got....."Awww, it's a little more than 19 sections....."
I like knowing that folks get offended by something as harmless as this question -- it lets me know to keep a good distance from people like that.....
