I have 2014 with the 3.7L and I average 19 city and highway combined, and
as much as 23 highway at speedlimit +/- 5mph.
it has the trailer tow package with 3:73 rear end and will pull my pop-up
camper like it's not back there. I recently got 17 highway pulling the pop-up.

I just bought a 5.0, 4X4 with the tow package. I travel about 160 miles round trip to the fire station. The screen says I am getting 19.3, running around in town and going hunting about 18.9. I love the power and the huge back seat.

I have the ecoboost I just drove to Montana last month. I averaged 21 mpg at 70 mph until I got into the hills then I went to 18mpg. I was getting 680 miles a tank of fuel through tx, ok, ks, and eastern Colorado.

Below is a post I put up about my '13 Ecoboost a little over a year ago.

It pulls my trailer with mowing equipment and/or Arctic Cat Prowler with ease, but the mileage really drops with a trailer.

The AC is a little weak, but gets the job done.

I have been driving 3/4 ton 4x4 Dodges for the last 18 years and the last was an '05 2500 with a chipped Cummins that I had for 8 years and put 199,975 miles on. I figured I'd be unsatisfied with any gas motor, but the Ecoboost has not let me down.
                Update;
My truck will roll 45,000 miles sometime in the next few days and I still like it as much as the day I got it. Up until about a month ago, I had a 100 mile round trip to and from work. Most of that was on the highway and if I ran 70-75, I'd get about 18.5-19 and between 75-80 mph, I'd get around 17.5 mph. We took it to Mirimar Beach, FL (630+ miles one way) this past summer and driving between 70-75, I got 21.2 mpg there and stepped up the speed on the way back and got 20.2, so total for that trip was around 20.7 mpg (drove all the way there on less than a tank). A couple of months ago, I towed a 30 horse 4x4 frontend loader tractor with a tiller and brushhog on the trailer and got around 12 mpg. The v6 had plenty of power to pass slower traffic on the two lane roads I was on. Not too many weekends have gone by that my trailer was not attached the back of the truck. For the life of the truck, my mileage is 15.2 as the trailer really pulls it down. I really like a good sounding v8, but I grew out of wanting that for myself. The ecoboost is quiet!

Would I own another one, IN A HEARTBEAT! As a matter of fact, I'm starting to look at replacing my wife's Expedition with a '15 since they now have the Ecoboost in them too.

                  2013, Lariat 4X4, 3.55 gears Ecoboost here. 15.1mpg, lifetime 24,000 miles +/-
Straight highway will get 16-17, better if you go slower than 70, but what is the fun in that. The whole reason to get this truck is to have the sports car feel. 5.0 is a dog compared to this thing. It will catch a 2nd gear scratch on dry pavement.
Most of the time I baby it though.

                    35" Nitto Trail
                    3.55 gears
7 hour commute to work. Live in Katy, work in Big Spring.
14.7 would be my average at 75-80 mph.

I love my 5.0 and the only thing I've replaced to date is the windshield.

I have a 2012 Ecoboost 4x4 supercrew with a leveling kit and 30" tires. On the hwy at under 75 I can get 18-19 once you pass 75 mph it drops rapidly. Pulled my 29 foot trailer 220 miles and got about 9 mpg, but it pulled it great. Next time I buy(about 3 years or so) I will look at both the eco and the v8. The only real issue I have with the eco is the power off the line. I want it to go and mine doesn't seem to have that. Also, I kind of miss my dual exhaust and the rumble it has. So if I was to buy right now, I would probably not buy an ecoboost because it costs more and I am not real sure there is that much of a benefit in it. Just my 2 cents.

I have a 2014 Crewcab Ecoboost with the 3.55, 4x4 with 12K on it. I love this truck and motor. I average 17.5 with 80 mile daily round trip with lots of sitting in bumper to bumper stop and go traffic. Traded a 2012 Silverado Z71 for this truck and was getting 14 on the same commute with the same driving style. Couple of things that sold me on this truck and motor:
Quiet, not just the motor but hands down way more quiet than the bowtie.
Room in the backseat. As mentioned above it is huge.
Better "drivers compartment" in my opinion. It just lays out better than the bowtie.

I would also leave you with this, check the gear ratio. FIL just bought same truck and it had 3.73 and he is getting a little less per MPG but it not broke in.
I have not regretted the EB one bit. I like the motor a lot. Pulled some lately and it performed as well as previous half ton v8 trucks that I have had. Mileage does drop depending on driving style and load, but I am okay with that. It is normal to me. I have saved $150 month on gas with this truck. Drive them both, I don't think you can go wrong with either one, just se which one feels right to you! Good luck.

                            This^^^

I personally would not get a EB just for better MPG's, for the extra $1k it will not ever make it up. The EB is about the same as the 5.0 overal as far as MPG's. I have a 2014 EB with max tow (3.73 rear end) and I get about 17 to 17.5 consistently and 14 mpg pulling a 16' trailer with an ATV and hunting stuff.. I went with the EB because of the low end torque, reaches peak torque @ 2500 RPM's and it has 420 ft pounds of it. It is a towing engine not a Eco engine, I think ford miss advertised this engine for this truck IMHO

You're comparing apples to oranges... Of course a 2014 is going out do the 2012. the bowtie did a redesign on their trucks too. you ought to compared 2014 vs. 2014. Then you may be upset a little about your egoboost.

I've compared my 14 bowtie to a buddies 14 egoboost. Even he agrees he should have looked at the 14 Chevys before buying his Ford. The only place he may have an advantage is in 0-60 time. Good thing I didn't buy my truck to race though. I woulda got the 6.2 in that case.

I love my 5.0. Has a little larger tires. Highway get 17-17.5 city get 15.5-16. I did tons of research and zero regrets going with the 5.0
