What's with aggie pride?

I graduated from Texas A&M in 1994....I am a huge Aggie football fan, however being an Aggie has nothing to do with a sport. If we didn't have a single athletic team, I would still be just as proud of my school. Nobody is forcing anyone to understand it or accept it. For the guys who continuously bash A&M here on TBH...just bypass the A&M threads and spread your negativity elsewhere.

Do a little research on the class's of '43 and '44, the corps, the band, the traditions like muster and midnight yell, the many business, civic, and military leaders , and to me the values of the university and I think what you are mostly seeing is just pride of being part of something that has been so special for so long .... And we just don't want to lose that feeling or connection.
Lots of other very special institutions and organizations like the military , LEO, and universities that have a similar cult..... I am just PROUD that I and all of my family are Aggies.

Great school, just wasn't for me.

Do that and you won't need any more explanation about the aggie spirit.

Now if you really want to examine a true cult following, go find some former Marines.
I came from Texas, but ended up at LSU.
There, they don't understand most of the stuff they see from Aggies.
They generally think a lot of it is ...... well......gay.
I had a little better understanding of the history and traditions, being from here.
That being said, LSU has the same type of allegiance - we hire our own, especially engineers.
And so does Missisippi......
And Oklahoma.....
And Auburn......
And the Colorado School of Mines....
And Alabama.....I work for a bunch of these "Big A" people.
It's really out of hand.
Fortunately, one of my two big bosses is a LSU man
Funny thing is, name all these schools.....they all have their own traditions, clubs, etc.
And they all think they are some kind of different "special".
Y'all are good folks. Keep it up.

From the outside looking in, you can't understand it.
From the inside looking out, you can't explain it.
Best said!!!
Also, it's not what people follow because they are winning at the time or what is popular,OR what they are selling at Wal-Mart & Academy. That's what you see with other schools in Texas. Typically Aggies are Aggies, not just joining the fad.

Many times, when wearing an A&M cap, folks will ask me if I am an Aggie fan....Most folks would just say "yes I went to (insert school name)". I hold up my right hand and say I [B]am[B] an Aggie! I have one other thing to say about Aggie pride/tradition...Aggie Muster-Corregidor Island- WWII.

My source of pride goes WAYYYYYY beyond football.
There are all kinds of folks who are passionate about things i could care less about or fail to understand. Somehow i don't feel the need to start a thread about it. I don't know what else it would be than you feel like you're missing out on something.
One of many examples that has nothing to do with sports. these are the kind of people A&M produces.
Eight Aggies have received the Congressional Medal of Honor, which is awarded for valor against an enemy force, and is the highest award a member of the Armed Services of the United States can earn.
The Medal of Honor recipients are:
Lieutenant Eli L. Whiteley ‘41
Sergeant William G. Harrell ‘43
Major Horace S. Carswell, Jr. ‘38
Sergeant George D. Keathley ‘37
Lieutenant Turney W. Leonard ‘42
Lieutenant Lloyd H. Hughes ‘43
Lieutenant Thomas W. Fowler ‘43
Specialist Fifth Class Clarence E. Sasse
