I check all traps once a day! I can't stand the thought of having an animal in a trap for longer than just one night!

I would go take care of buisness as you never want to have an animal suffer that like no matter even if its ....just a coon. Very smart and intelligent creatures.
(and yes I see the irony that this one is trapped)

Well, it appears you have already learned your lesson and you won’t put yourself in that position. I think you should split the difference and go early in the morning to take care of it...might have another one by then. If it makes it through the heat of the day then it will make it through the night. I don’t like seeing anything suffer, but lets keep our feet on the ground.

Who on here has said they are o.k. with gut shooting a deer?

                      I would'nt/could'nt. Needless suffering.

I think you knew your answer before you asked... right choice in my opinion. It doesn't matter if it's a coon, rat, or mouse... I don't think any living animal should suffer needlessly. And no... I don't like soy curds, but I don't mind a soft pillow!

I do not believe in setting any traps unless I can check them the next morning. I've driven several hours before back to the lease on a work day just because I wasn't sure if I had tripped the hog trap or not before I left. They are all God's creatures and I believe in doing the right thing and not letting any animals suffer if I can prevent it.

So who on the ethics committee gets to determine the exact number of hours a coon can be trapped before it's unethical?

A lot of people here seem to care about the coon suffering but does no one care how strong those Duke traps are? I wouldn't want to see Jhill stuck in a duke trap for more than a few minutes But seriously they get in pretty quick after dark and sit all night..That can't feel to good.

How often should I check my mouse traps? Should I pull up the glue strips every time I leave camp?
