    Coon Trapping Ethics

I have 3 dukes traps at my feeder. Covert camera just texted me a pic of 1 trapped coon. Is it unethical to wait a day to go out there to kill the coon I have? It's a 45 minute drive with tolls, so I'd like to have more than 1 coon, but I don't want the thing to suffer. What are your thoughts?

I don't set traps I can't check the next day. Not into the cruelty thing. My thoughts are...go get the coon.

dying of dehydration is a terrible way to go for any animal

Go tend to it, it would eat me up knowing I could have eased his passing.

We only set and bait ours while we are at the ranch to prevent what you're experiencing. Not trying to be judgmental, just what we do.

Yes it is. Put yourself in that position.

Like many others here, I only set any trap if I can run it at least every 12 hours. As for your situation...you'll have to decide? This situation is one of the reasons why I only set a trap if I can run it.

Go tend to it, while i see merit in what DamonJ says above, they're only doing what they do naturally.

Addidionally, the longer you wait the better your chance of finding a a chewed off foot in your trap. I found one in mine last year and always checked them the next morning.

I guess I have a soft spot for suffering animals, whether it be pigs, coyotes, or coons...I'd try and take care of it if it were me.

this time of the year if the trap is in the sun its prolly already dead.
