Only thing I don't like is 1) all the flopping!!! I saw ppl being stretchered off the field for a cramp! 2) stoppage time lets extend/end the game when ever either put in timeouts or when the games over it's over. An if the balls past midfield there shouldnt be off sides
Not sure why its such a hard concept for some to grasp. It is a ROUND ROBIN for the first round. Its about POINTS, not wins. Our problem with American Sports is we focus solely on the win, not the body of work. We are the only country who crowns its champions based on an end of season tournament, not on the best team that season. Hockey changed to appease US fans who couldn't understand that its about points. That's why they had to only give 2 points for a win instead of 3. No, we want a win or a loss and he who is playing best at the END of the season is our champion. Again, first stage is a round robin, the two teams with the most points move on to round 2, where you WILL have a winner every match. There are things we don't like about every sport. I HATE how American football is an hour on the clock yet it takes 3.5 hrs to play. I HATE how baseball takes so long and is slow. I HATE how hockey shifts are so short. I HATE all the timeouts in Basketball. But, I appreciate the games and can still enjoy them win/lose or draw.
I saw this quote yesterday......
"the only time a tie is considered favorable or a win is in a soccer or when a woman is arguing with her husband.."...
I'll give you that not everyone can hit a fast pitch...I for example would start my swing the second he nodded on the pitch call from the catcher...ha. and congrats to even making contact on JB...seriously cool.
but the game is too slow for me....too boring and too long of a season. and those guys are the COCKIEST in sports...can't take it. I think if you cut the season in half or more, you'll get more fans excited. It's starting to be like college basketball...which nobody cares about until march madness...
Ties on points at the end of the group stage are resolved by goal difference. The US team has scored four goals and let in three so their difference is plus 1. Portugal has scored three and let in seven so their difference is -4. If the US loses to Germany 1-0 and Portugal beats Ghana 5-0 then Portugal goes through on difference because the US will be at 0 difference and Portugal at +1. Y'all can figure out the other scenarios.[/QUOTE]
great now I have to do math to know what's going on. It's keeps getting worse and worse lol. Like I said I was getting into it just hate there was no what I would call an ending.

Packers Tie Vikings 26-26, the 4th NFL Tie in the Last 15 Years

Green Bay tied Minnesota, 26-26, in a wacky game that was alternatively exciting – Tolzien! Lacy! – and beyond boring (see, overtime). The women who wore bikinis to the game will remember it well: “Remember that time I got mono … it was at that game that ended in a tie!”
Here’s an oddity: The last seven NFL ties have all happened in November. I can’t begin to explain why that is. Weather? It’s worse in December. Then again, in December, teams are in must-win mode for the playoffs, and nobody wants to settle for a tie. Although it’s not like anyone wants a tie in November, either.
November 19, 1989 Cleveland Browns Kansas City Chiefs 10–10
November 16, 1997 Baltimore Ravens Philadelphia Eagles 10–10
November 23, 1997 Washington Redskins New York Giants 7–7
November 10, 2002 Pittsburgh Steelers Atlanta Falcons 34–34
November 16, 2008 Cincinnati Bengals Philadelphia Eagles 13–13
November 11, 2012 San Francisco 49ers St. Louis Rams 24–24
I can see where some would think baseball is boring but I'm not one of those people. There is a lot going on the whole time: ptiching, hitting , fielding and so on. But to say that aren't athlete's is crazy talk. The hardest thing to do in sports is hit a baseball. If you have never tried to hit a 90mph fast ball you should, it will change your mind. I faced Josh Becket in high school and he was throwing 95 to 98 and I could barley even see the ball much less hit it
(I did foul one off )
So you "understand" baseball. That's probably the biggest problem with "anti soccer fans". They don't "understand" all those little nuances about the game. The level at which you watch/understand baseball is the level most soccer fans watch soccer.
Only thing I don't like is 1) all the flopping!!! I saw ppl being stretchered off the field for a cramp! 2) stoppage time lets extend/end the game when ever either put in timeouts or when the games over it's over. An if the balls past midfield there shouldnt be off sides
That's the ONLY time there is offsides. That's how it works. If you want to score you have to be smarter/faster than the defense. Work for it, nobody is going to give it to you. As for stoppage time. Its a 90 minute game and you are going to play 90 minutes. No time outs, that's American for , "wait, I don't know what play to run so let me ask my coach", or "hey, I'm tired, can I have some water". So any time wasting gets put back on the clock. Imagine how many hours it would take to play an NFL game if they did that.
American sports you play good all year long to get to the playoffs and then once in the playoffs the best of the best play to WIN To me who cares if you are the best at the beginning of the season, you shouldn’t win based on something you did in the past. In the words of Herm Edwards " You play to WIN the game"
I don't think you win a season by only being good at the beginning of the season. You need to be the best all year long. Otherwise I guess you just play the season as a "preseason" to get warmed up since it only matter how you play at the end. Forget everything you did all year long, it means nothing. The team that had a losing record and barely made the playoffs is better than you and will be crowned champs. Your 1 loss the entire season made you worthless. At least that is the American way
As for the other poster a season champion should be the one who did best from beginning to the end, not the one who got on a hot streak in the playoffs.
I believe the last NFL tie was around 2006. Americans hate tie games! That's why soccer sucks!
ties DO happen in the NFL, just not often
2013 GB and MINN tied
2012 SF and STL tied
the only time a "tie" can occur during the WC is in the round-robin group stage which we are currently watching.
in the FIFA World Cup, there is no OT or "golden goal" during the round-robin group tournament (US, Ghana, Germany, Portugal). 8 groups of 4 teams play to accumulate the most points. The top 2 teams (based on points) advance to the knock-out round.
The KO stage is single elimination and involves extra time and shoot-outs to determine the winner if tied after regulation. No ties during this stage.
Remember the famous Brandi Chastain goal ? US and China were tied after regulation and overtime. They went to a sudden death PK shootout which Chastain sealed the deal for the US to win the women's 1999 WC
