Woah! Bow-techAggie I like the screen name also! I switched to an Elite a month ago, so my screen name isn't 100% accurate. They both make some awesome bows! Also, I am definitely an Aggie.

Anyhow, everyone has good points. I worked at a deli for 2.5 years but never worked for "tips", per se. The previous restaurant managers on here had some good insight. Especially, the part about notifying a manager if the service is bad, I have forgotten to do that before.

I don't personally go off percentages for tips. In this case I would have tipped $5. If it was a credit card I would have done $4, and $10 for a young person trying hard or excellent service. But, for business expenses I do stick with a 20%-25% rate.

give the waiter a $5 bill and ask the waiter tonga very the manager bring back change. Ask the manager how much tip he would leave for that service.

I feel the need to respond to this, but for a tip, I'm going to give you the silence you deserve.

        exactly.

you leave my drink sitting empty, your manager is going to bring me a full one along with the refill so I don't have to wait on your sorry ***. And I'm not paying for either one of them, or leaving a tip.

I get paid at my job when the job is done correctly, if it isn't, they send it back to me until I get it right.

I figure it should be the same everywhere else too.

The reason the service was bad was probably because of all the people before you that tipped the guy even though they got bad service too. I always get mad when people leave a tip just because they think they have to. All that does is lead to the waiter providing more bad service in the future because he is getting tips regardless. If everyone just stopped tipping for poor service, then we wouldn't get as much poor service.

some get it and the others keep the train of entitlement moving along. If you expect me to subsidize your employees wages for you, then you and them better understand I have choices!

When I gave him/her the $100, I would have asked for a few ones back if I had intended on tipping.

I usually leave a good tip but in this case I would have just left.

I was in the bar /restaurant field for a few years in collage and knew what its like to work for tips but if you do not work hard and make your customers happy then you are SOL.

Who can tell me what tips stands for? A lot of people even those in that line of work do not know!
