I've had the 1.5hp #32 Cabelas brand grinder for about 12-13 years or so now. My auger and bushing connection is designed different than yours. My bushing is connected to the back of the auger at all times. It holds up very tight. After grinding probably several thousand pounds of meat ever since I've had it, there has never been the tiniest speck of meat ever get behind that bushing. Nor have I ever had even the slightest issue with grinder. It's gone the entire 12-13 years without the slightest hiccup.

For whatever the reason they changed that design....it's not as good of a design like the older ones have.

I have the 1 hp and it does the same thing. I will try the spray lube.

Doing this below solved my problem.....Pam canola spray and making sure the the auger plate and knife assembly was just lightly hand tightened. The Pam made cleanup much easier as well. 200 lbs of sausage grinding and stuffing, 30lbs of sticks grinding and stuffing and 2 grinds of 40lbs of bacon burger and no heat at all. Thanks yazoomike

          .
That is what I do with my home built grinder. When I was reading up on the build, most recommended electric motors to gear down to sub 160RPM at the out put to keep from cooking the meat while it was grinding. And I've found Pam Cooking spray to help it run right at 160 .

unrelated but a good tip that i picked up from a friend, after you are finished with grinding the meat, grind a sleeve of saltine crackers, makes the clean up much easier.

I'm a huge fan of the Cabelas brand grinders. Anyone know who really makes them?

We grind around 750 lbs of meat (venison & pork) per year and our 3/4 hp does the job.

Also the saltine trick really does work.
