A dine in customer orders drinks, alcohol or not, they have a larger margin and I'm sure that covers the possibility of that customer taking their food to go.
They where the crappy foil ones.

If they had told me on the phone, "Would you like to bring your own Tupperware? We charge 1.11 for our crappy foil ones." Thats one thing

Y'all are making me hungry and it's only 9:15 am. I LOVE Chuy's and the CHicka Chicka Boom Boom is awesome! Man and I am on a diet too. This sucks.

When a place adds a tip to your bill without your ok, do you tip again?
You paid the bill without looking at it and then left and looked at it, and you complain. Sorry but dont make much sense to me.

With companies soon having to cope with the cost of Obamacare you can expect a lot more hidden charges.

Charging for To Go stuff is ridiculous. I run a pretty high volume restaurant and we do about 10% of our business in to go sales and I can assure you I make more of a to go order than an in house order. This kind of charge is BS and I am seeing more and more of it. Chuy's is growing fast and this is the kind of crap you start seeing with growth-trying to pinch pennies.SMH

Now you have me curious if all the other Chuys are doing that.

Sounds like a reason to get a Big As Your Face Burrito tonight

I didnt take it as him complaining. I took it that he was giving us a heads up to be aware of the undisclosed fee at the time he ordered his meal.

True but dine in customers are paying more overall. They typically order more with appetizers, drink, and alcohol. To go orders don't keep the doors open to a place like that.

The to go orders add to the bottom line. It is a way for them to generate additional revenue and income when their restaurant is full. They wouldnt be selling to go orders if they werent making money off of it. The charge is ridiculous.

Ok, maybe I took that part wrong.
However my advise to everyone is to look at the bill before you pay it.

Question-- Would you have tipped as much if you had seen the fee before paying the bill?

Its not that I think they aren't making money from it just that they don't depend on it. If a buck is too much people ought to cook at home or hit a taco bell IMO

Look, an experience restaurant manager has already chimed in that he makes more off his to go orders than dine in. The charge is just a money grab nothing else.
