It costs more for take out than dine in?
    Lets investigate that..
Dine in costs associated to each customer:
    Silver ware
Silver ware cleaning/washing (requires personnel on staff to both bus and perform the washing)
silverware preparation (rolling up in napkins to be placed on table - requires personnel on staff)
    Napkins
    Napkin rollerupper
Napkin washing cleaning (staff to collect, and service to pickup and perform wash/clean)
Tables, Chairs, Booths, Plates, Menus, Restrooms, cleaning sevices, HVAC, lighting, Pest control, etc etc etc...

    Take out:
    Person to cook food
Person to package food and shove into a bag.
Person to collect money for bag

    Yeh you got ripped off.

Different industries and they didn't deliver the food to my house. I had to pick it up.

It isn't other than the percentage who don't get doggie bags, but they don't want to raise their menu prices. I've never gotten to go from Chuy's but would bet they have branded containers. If not they probably don't use the flimsy stuff most smaller places use. Good containers aren't cheap.

I'm not agreeing with the fee just explaining the likely reason it's in place.

Yet they dont charge for "to go" containers when you dine in and take home leftovers

Dine in customers pay the majority of the employees wages

                      Sent this to their headquarters.

"So I got ToGo food last night from Chuy's in Webster. Walked up to the bartender, told her I have a togo order and she went back to get it.

I paid and left a small tip. I get in the car and look at my receipt. You charged me $1.11 for a packaging fee.

What is next? Are going to start charging dish washing fees? A wear and tear fee for tables and chairs?

Kinda ridiculous. We will no longer be ordering to go food from your restaurant. "

                      Thank you,

                      Martin

This^^^. It is way cheaper to serve "to go" customers than it is to serve dine in customers. What a bull**** fee.

Yep. And tips have nothing to do with a restaurant's bottom line in regards to paying employees wages.

I agree. Someone has to pay for the packaging, and those Styrofoam or plastic boxes aren't real cheap. Especially when you use as many of them as they do. I guarantee they aren't making any money off of them, just covering their costs.

A dine in customer orders drinks, alcohol or not, they have a larger margin and I'm sure that covers the possibility of that customer taking their food to go.

Because they are probably making up for it on the dine in costs because people will typically spend more when dining in.

Good letter Martin. Very appropriate and will hopefully shed some light on the darkness of ridiculous fees. Im sure its a great place, but drop the hidden fees.
