exactly a field point in that spot would eventually kill him

from experience (bad at that) let me confirm low brisket

Short white hairs mean brisket or inside of leg.

Looks like a flesh wound to me. Maybe he was turned more than you thought and you did not get into the vitals or it glanced off of the leg bone, just flesh blood.

Could have dropped and turned with the arrow going in where the scar is and coming out under the right leg.

But thats the exit wound. Turn that deer around so we can see the hole on his belly

I shot the biggest deer of my life 3 seasons ago. 130-140 class 11 pt. with a montec. It was morning and my shoot-thru screen was slightly over-illuminated but I felt comfortable and took the shot. 25 yards. Similar story. He left hugging the ground with his tail limp and dust flying everywhere. Greasy arrow with a little blood and hair but nothing on the ground. Went to work leaving the area undisturbed. Returned to track his prints 200 yds to the fence. No blood. Next ranch wouldn't allow us to cross for an attempted retrieve (that's another story all together). Never recovered (by us anyway). Hopefully, yours survived and lives to be killed another day. Sorry for your misfortune. That being said, it's a good chance hes a different buck altogether. Brisket shot was my guess on mine but I never saw him again on cams. Better luck next year! Crud happens.
