I used to fish a ton when I lived on the Gulf. I love surf casting. I stopped when I moved away from the coast because I'm not a competent inshore fisherman and I let myself believe inshore fish are the size of my bait I used to use saltwater fishing an therefore are no fun. I learned I was wrong. My five year old son is a fishing fanatic so I take him out and caught a good size large mouth so I've been trying to learn. I'm enjoying it, not as much as hunting, but it's fun.

Not to hijack this thread, but what's a good rod/reel combo I can use to use really light lures? I have a spinning reel now and it's just tangling all the time I retrieve. I probably need to scale down some of my tackle...

I just bow fish for large mouth and crappie all year!
But seriously, I pick hunting over fishing but I love both.

I'm ready to start fishing again when it's warm enough I don't need waders.

Definitely fish a lot more considering I live near the coast.

Deer season is only October through early January on our lease. I fish year-around. I may do a few hog hunts after deer season, however, I typically stop that whenever the weather starts to warm up. There's no turkeys and no exotics on our lease either.

We catch fish year round. Believe it or not, the hardest months for me to consistently find fish is March and April.

If I was backed into a corner and had to choose, fishing would be my pick hands down. This is primary due to me being able to fish year- around. Also, I like the fact that tactics change with the season and weather.

Mid February depending on the weather. Shoot all ASA tournaments and pull rv to Toledo Bend after each tournament. Usually quit fishing in May for golf and archery. August is preparing for the month of September in New Mexico chasing elk. October and November chasing deer and pigs with trips to Calcasieu lake for reds and specs. Hogs are always fair game if they show up on the trail camera.

I would rather hunt than fish, but the nice thing about duck hunting on the coast is I get to do both if I choose. The only month that I "take off" from fishing is February, March - April is a bit spotty due to winds, but other than that I am in the water.

I will say this, nothing like catching a big girl on a lure in January while standing in the water....you know you are doing something right

Time to hunt the big girls with corkies and tails.

Two equal passions that my wife and I share together. I do get tired of hunting by the end of December but I never get tired of chasing reds, trout, and flounder. an occasional jack adds spice to it all.
