The main reason we pay to hunt is to shoot a nice deer, at least that is the excuse we tell ourselves!

The members that pay the money should be the ones that have the last say in taking bucks!

    Paid members come before guests.
I'd rather my kid shoot it.

Or let Courtney shoot it, or her grandfather.....

but that's just me - we had a huge buck on camera four years ago - I wanted Court to shoot it, even though it would have been my biggest buck by about forty inches! He would have been just as dead, no matter who pulled the trigger. As it turned out, a few sourpusses on my lease got all butthurt because I was going to let her shoot it -- go on and be mad....

oh, and by the way - A gun hunter on the next ranch shot him out of his truck.

    166 and change.

    It's just a deer, but I guess that's why I lease where I do.

We look at immediate family (spouses/children) in a different light than other guests. Our kids and wife's shoot stuff! Nobody on our lease would have had a problem with that scenario.

The Granmpa deal would be a little different but my guess is would probably be okay.

We also give a little more leeway to guests that come and help us during the off season and bring my flavor of beer!

Not knocking your system, just have a question.

If hunter A passes on buck1, but let's his buddy/kid/whoever shoot it, buck1 is dead and hunter B didn't get to shoot buck1. Hunter A used up his tag.

If hunter A shoots buck1, buck1 is dead and hunter B didn't get to shoot buck1. Hunter A used up his tag.

Both scenarios result in buck1 dead and hunter B not being the one to pull the trigger.
What difference does it make who pulled the trigger?

We let our guest hunt off our tags so some years it may go to a guest. To us, it doesn't matter. We have been blessed over the years with some nice harvests. It's nice to get to share with your friends and family and especially the kids.

Hunter A and B are paid members.

If Hunter A decides not to shoot a deer then it needs to get passed onto another paid hunter.

This scenario relates to a relative belief in what a trophy and a management and a cull deer are to the lease or hunter.

Keep in mind there are 3 tiers to our place, I guess:

            Paid members
immediate family such as spouses and kids
            other guests

The paid members do the work and put in the money to make it all happen.
We are all very big believers in having family a part of our lease and want them to experience the lease life so we allow them to participate more deeply than other guests.

              well, that makes more sense.....

but never underestimate the power of grown men to get all upset over deer, and find a reason to cause a stink.

I'm not about to tell a single lease member not to bring his girlfriend as his only guest to hunt, while another paid member brings his wife, kids, grown kids, brother, step kids, etc.

              But they are out there....

I can understand that point of view, don't agree with it, but I can respect it.

Our lease is a little more flexible.
Everyone pays for a spot. Your "spot" entitles you to shoot a 1 person limit of deer.
You can fill your limit however you see fit.
You can shoot it or whoever you choose/allow can shoot it.
Once your limit is reached, you're done.

I was wondering if you would chime in

Court and I were sitting in a pop up blind about 100 yards away.
I knew as soon as I heard the shot......

the story I heard was that the guy fed the does and this deer hopped the fence to have a chat with the ladies....fatal mistake

We don't even allow guests. Immediate family only, wife and kids. No one else. They shoot off my tags.
