Bore sight yes, but that should be just good enough to get you to hit paper at 50.

Depends on who was behind the counter. Young kid--no. Older guy that seems to know something--yes. Its just a bore sight.

Problem is, while boresighting can be an innocuous event with them, mounting is another story. I'm afraid that they wouldn't take the time I do to get the torque on the screws just right, level the scope where the crosshairs were straight up and down, and use Loctite on the screws. Not having that done correctly will screw you up shooting at 100 yards or more.

I used to work at an academy and I would not take my gun to get it bore sighted unless you are on the road and dont have any other place to go.

I would say yes but depending on who is working and if they know what they are talking about. I did it for 5 years, and also my friend who is a professional gun smith with his own gun shop yet works there on the side... So yeah just depends on who all is there.

I call BS on this one. Bore sighting is as simple as lining up a red laser with the crosshairs and I have done plenty and had many done by shops also and have never seen one accurate at 100 yards from just bore sighting. I guess it's possible just not probable.

Can you trust your local butcher to do a heart transplant?

If it costs extra then NO. To easy to do yourself.

Too easy to do yourself. I use the methods above. Usually a street light from a DARK garage. Don't want the neighbors getting nervous. It'll put me within 5-8" of center usually.

no. My neighbor had them do one of his rifles and put screws in that were too long. he could close the action on his rifle when loaded because the cartridge wouldn't go down the barrel.

                            This^^^^^

There's no telling how many different directions they would turn the crosshairs before getting them in place.

I had them mount one on my .308. Not only did they drop my rifle, but they twisted a screw off in the barrel. I had to have a gun smith take the barrel off and drill it out. So I guess my short answer is NO WAY!!!!
