What is the typical free range state record?

Was having a conversation with a buddy and we couldn't figure out what the free range state record is for a typical whitetail shot with a bow. Does anyone know? Again, free range, shot with a bow, and typical buck. I imagine it's somewhere around 190" but not sure.

Low to mid 180's, 182-184ish, shot in the Panhandle a few years ago. That's my understanding, anyway.

nope....that 215 was high fence. Not sure on free range. Grayson is probably right on that one.

There was a big King Ranch buck a few years ago, but it was killed in velvet. Not sure if the velvet was stripped and/or what the official net score was. I know it grossed like 196.

Would the low fence one on here be what you are looking for?

            The one from Shackelford County

Why isn't there a better listing for these records? I know TBGA keeps them but that is only if the animal is entered into the program. One could also search B&C or P&Y records but the same still applies. Years ago, John Stein had a book out, Big Rack, but that is the closest I have seen.

It is interesting that that record is so hard to find.

The state record is 196 and change.

That Shackleford buck was the biggest entered into TBGA until it was beat by Brittinghams high fence deer.

I find it amazing that with all the new, high tech hunting equipment, food supplements and all the new and improved ways/means to hunt that the State record hasnt been broken in almost 10 years. Guess it goes to show that free range 165+, much less 180+ bucks are few and far between.
