My first deer I didn't miss I just didn't draw any blood. I was shooting fingers with an old whitetail 2 and never noticed I lifted the arrow off the rest, smacked that doe with the shaft and never saw a deer run so fast ! I didn't get another chance till the next year but I was shooting my new Onedia by then 1 shot 1 8 point down, for the next 3 years I filled my tags with that bow during bow season! Sure wish I never sold it!

1 poorly placed arrow. I was lucky to find her.

4... Over her back, under her belly, spined her. Only had three arrows so I had to go pick one up. Walked up to her and finished her off. Never wanna spine another one.

My first "bow" kill was with a crossbow. Does that make me a cheater?

Prior to that, I missed about a 200lb sow at less than 10 yards with a 45lb longbow. Kinda glad I didn't connect considering I had no idea what I was doing, my arrows were spined incorrectly, and I was having to shoot sideways, crouched, to shoot under the brush.

Since then, I've gone the vertical route. First deer (a spike), was a 1 shot deal! I was as pumped about that spike as I was the monster I got this year. Nothing like the first deer with a bow...

So far I haven't missed at live animals yet..... but then again I have only killed 3 does and a turkey so far, and one non recovery stuck a turkey but couldn't find her in the thick brush she ran into.

Here we can 'only' get 2 deer tags. The 1st is to put meat in the freezer as long as it's a legal buck (a minimum 1" fork on 1 of the antlers) and the second tag is for antlers.

What I found a few seasons ago was I shot 5x at the same buck at 35 yards, and he'd walk a few yards, almost laugh at me, and then browse again. At wit's end I called my friend/ the owner of the local archery shop/ an NAA Level 5 coach and he asked where my arrows were going? When I told him where each arrow missed in flight Mike diagnosed the problem. I was subconsciously "peeking" around my sight and pins to see the arrow in flight and it's point of impact, and was moving the bow at the moment of my release.

I started with closed eye shooting a few yards from the target bales to get my shot mechanics straight, and then started 20 yard shooting focusing only on the pin- and focused on the pin through my follow-through. Darn where the arrows hit- I'd see that afterwards. It took a while, but now when I go through my shooting cycle, I'm very conscious of focusing all my attention on the pin and not the target, and if anything listen for the sound of the hit.

It seems to have worked, I've shot deer and pigs since.

the 1st deer I shot took 1 arrow and went about 45yrds. The shot was at 17yrds and rear dbl lung. Almost didn't find it, the neighbor asked if we had shot a deer cause there was one dead on the side of his drive.

My first kill was the first time I ever bow hunted on opening morning. Took two shots. Fist on spines her . After she fell I knocked up again and waited for her to kick around and give me a shot at her hart. Took her out. Haven't even had another chance in about three years. Hoping this will be the year.

I air balled the first buck I shot at, then shot a doe a week later.

3rd arrow struck paydirt! First one was 14yrs ago at a doe after years of hunting and finally got a shot! Was so excited I never looked through the peep just kinda pointed in that direction and turned it loose! Stuck a thunderhead 100 about 6ft high in a tree. 2nd shot was in 2009 at a doe in Menard. Got tired of watching em cross this trail and sent an arrow after about the 5th one to cross this same spot. Guessed it for 25yrs it was 35. Right under her. Next morning a spike came into the feeder at 14yds and he caught a Rage to the cage. Been hooked ever since! Never been much of a gun hunter for deer, but bow hunting is fun!!!

Still don't have my first kill, but have some experiences. Picked up my bow just about a year ago and went into the season with a reasonable amount of confidence. Shot a 100 lbs porker about 1 minute into bow season, but was unable to make the recovery. Just before Thanksgiving, I had a nice 8 pointer walk into my feeder and stand in the same position as the hog. I took what I thought was the perfect shot, but no dice. $80 for a tracker, 6+ hours of looking and 600 yards of blood trail tracking tells me my shot wasn't ideal. I have learned a lot, but still seeking my first success.
