The year was 1995. The number of arrows left in my quiver that held 5 arrows - 0. Stupid doe deserved to die to be shot at so many times. I was shaking so bad, I couldn't talk.

I shot the first deer that came in range. It just happened to be a little 1 1/2yo 5 point buck. Certainly no expert but it only took one arrow.........I started tracking way too soon and walked up on him and he was still alive. He looked weak so jumped on him and slit his throat. I didnt realize how strong they are till I was on top holding his antlers in one hand and fumbling around trying to cut his throat without stabbing myself.

I missed about 5 or 6 the first season I hunted. I was using a borrowed bow that was loud to draw and did not fit me right. I never could draw without them hearing me. I bought my own bow the next season, and still missed the 1st deer I shot at, right over her back. I concentrated on does early in the first season. I killed the second doe I shot at that 2nd season, but the dang hogs found her before I did and had her half eaten before I got to her. I went about 4 straight years without a miss after that. I used to shoot every day just about, and got really good. Since then I have practiced enough to knock the rust off, and went hunting. I have not missed in a couple years. The main thing that has made that possible is permanent ground blinds with small shooting windows. You can move around, draw, get comfortable, and shoot. The deer have never spooked on me when drawing.

My first kill was a doe standing broad side at 8 yards. If I needed more than one arrow, or if I would have missed, I probably would have given up bowhunting. I still remember the nervous feeling of trying to draw. Once drawn and settled in with my pin, a calm feeling swept me and I knew she was dead before I tripped the release. Its been pretty fun ever since that first hunt.

I shot a rock, the ground, a dead tree lying on the ground and a live tree in front of me. I was about the give up when my buddy told me to bend at the waist vs raise my arms up and down and not change my anchor point. Well I finally connected back to back on my next two! Anybody else have any similar experiences or all y'all expert bowhunters from the start
I missed 6 deer over 3 seasons before I finally got my first with a bow. I about threw my bow away and went back to rifle. It was the most frustrating thing. But after that first kill I was hooked and don't enjoy rifle hunting as much as bow.

Alot more than I would like. My first deer to shoot at jumped my string causing me to hit her in the hind quarter. Never recovered her but saw her at end of season all healed up. Then about four more misses over the years. Until about three yrs ago. I shot at a doe and missed. Five min later a spike came out. Nailed him he dies with in 80 yards. The next yr same stand. A mature spike. Nailed him died with in 40 yds.

first bow kill - rabbit
then came hogs (some misses..mostly hits..some recovered..some not)
then 2 clean misses on deer (still blaming rages..but ...)
then one poor shot on spike (Again with the blaming of the rages)..never recovered.
then perfect heart shot on a doe (schwacker) where she looked like a sprinkler spraying and died within 25 yards.
