Lived in Southwest Austin (Circle C Ranch) for 10 years prior to getting out of there and moving back home to Wyoming.
I still travel to Texas all the time for business and for me, there is no camparison between Austin and Houston. If you are going to live it a city in Texas, Austin is the the best place to be IMHO>

Houston is the fifth or sixth largest city in the country....Austin will NEVER come close to that....takes an hour just to get to the outskirts of Houston...takes half of that time to get outside of Austin...Austin has its quirks, but will never be anything more than a college town with the Capitol, it has lost a lot of its charm since I used to spend a good portion of my youth there...but its a good place to raise a family, as long as you can find employment

I live outside of Houston and ill take it over Austin proper. Now outside of Austin is different but the traffic in Austin, transients, and weirdo's...and I'm out! Especially if you have kids. I don't want my child exposed to those behaviors and ways until they are old enough to know better. Last time I was in Austin, tons of people had bumper stickers on their cars that read "F@€k Bush". Seriously?????? I'm all about not being in support of someone or even opposition to them, but that is too much for my values and beliefs

I was born and raised in Austin, so I'm a little biased, but there is no way I could ever live in Houston; I have been offered jobs in Houston making more than twice what I make now and didn't even consider moving there. I could live in Austin, but it would have to be central Austin, way too much traffic and sprawl in the 'burbs. I just can't believe what it has become in the past 7 years since I've been gone, every time we go to visit I hardly recognize the town, kind of sad, but necessary.
I am truly blessed to be able to live and raise my children in a small city in West Texas with no interstates!

WOW, well that is some quick feedback, and much appreciated. keep it coming.
My thoughts were/ are similar to alot of you. I think that Austin gives the opportunity to live outside of the city in a smaller town and still commute in for larger city employment. Houston, we live close to Tomball, is just so large you have to be an hour or more out of town before you are out of town.
IMO, I would prefer to deal with small town BS, over thugs and gangbangers.
