You could not pay me enough to live in Houston or Austin or any other big city. Heck even the small town I live in now is getting too crowded.

My next home town will be Bandera.

I'm an East Texas guy. I like trees and green grass and decent amounts of rain.
      Houston suits me fine.
Its also close to the coast.
There's more conservatives here and conservatives are my people.
Most importantly there's plenty of good paying jobs to support my family and hobbies

They're both disgusting liberal cess pools. I work in Houston 8 days a month and that's the only time you'll catch me there---when I'm paid to be there. Wife and I both come from rural areas outside very small towns. I can't imagine living in Houston or Austin. Tried the suburbs thing in Montgomery/Conroe area for three years. Nearly ruined our marriage, we were both so unhappy there. Nobody should be miserable where they live.

i agree with this. wish i had a FF schedule.

i struggle living in the city. it has its perks, but more downside in my opinion.

plus, this has all been reignited by the fact that my family finally sold our last piece of land outside of Austin. When my grandparents passed away, we sold their place and all of the cattle. now my mom just sold the place that i grew up on. so we are all subdivision folks now. not a good feeling.

thanks for all of the replies. i knew i could count on the opinionated GS.

Austin all the way! There is no amount of money someone could pay me to live in Houson!

You can move to South Austin or dripping and receive the city benefits and be 20 min to downtown.

Only other Texas city I would live in is San Antonio.

Austin would be my pick of the two choices

How often on here do you see folks post about taking
a little vacation or taking the wife to the Austin area? Never have I seen a simular thread about Houston.

Crime rate low- education level higher than average- lower humidity. I would live where I was making money though.

This is the wild card. Money is definately better in Houston. Especially working in the O&G industry.

I'm from Houston. I've lived in Bellaire/Meyerland/Maplewood my whole life. I grew up in Buffalo Field Archery Club in Memorial Park. I still live just down the street from Bellaire high school where I went.

But... my family first settled in Bastrop in 1831. A few years ago I went and spent some time there. We thought about moving there so I'd be close to the river to paddle every day (TexasWater Safari racer). Bastrop is quaint but too "small town" for me.

I'll probably die in my house on Maple street. I've lived here since 1959.
