Lately it seems that there are more members that feel the need not only to offer an opinion to every topic, but feel like they have to offer a reply to every subsequent post on that topic.

You're probably right that it has little to do with post count status. It's probably more of a function of liking to argue (and liking to see themselves talk.)

Understood....I guess my few concern on the posts per day deal would hurt some of the stuff like the Ranger threads or any sporting event type threads (non bashing of course), live hunt threads, as well as limit folks on offering prayers or congrats to every post that gets posted because they are monitoring their counts so they can take part in other stuff. Of course I don't have any idea of the number you are looking at and lessening threads may be part of the plan too....but just thinking out loud.

****...does what I just posted fall under offering your opinion too much...

"Post King" was a self annointed title that Rob gave himself.

It was all in jest and not ever taken seriously. Not even by Rob. The "quality over quantity" method of participation has long been the GS standard.

Honestly, Jason Smart's amazing post count has always surprised me in that it does not seem like he posts that much. I know he does on a sports thread every now and then but that does not seem that often. I guess what I'm trying to say is if you asked me without looking at stats, I'd guess he does not post any more than the average guy (which is a good thing). I mean that as a compliment.

Meanwhile, the new "post per day king" and a few other relatively new guys seem to want to post like Michael described. They get on a thread and comment on every nuance. This (to me) detracts from forum value.

Seems like you can get your point across (not including live hunt or a sport in progress) in under 30 posts on any single topic. I'm not in favor of any kind of forum restriction on posts per day, but I think it should also be ok for a moderator to say, "ok buddy, let somebody else have the floor" without it being a big deal. Even if its just a verbal reminder (like this thread).

You definately see the swing, after someone's been here for a while, too.

Many new members want to play king of the hill and sometimes it even seems like they're just trying to stir up a debate. Trophy8 is a perfect example. He used to be one of the mouthiest members, now he's simmered down and his posts add value. I wont be the pot that calls the kettle black; I was the same way.

I think it's just a matter of time ... a member either settles down, makes "good" posts (giving up quantity), OR they just fade away and quit posting all together.

Michael some people just like to hear their own voice and know the answer to almost every problem out their The only reason I use the post count if to know if they have been around enough to buy or sell anything to or from. I don't buy anything from a new spike or a 6 year old spike. Something to ponder before axing that function.

That would detract more from the forum. Signatures were awesome, but some misused them and away they went. It takes 30 posts on a topic sometimes to get someone else to see your views. Why would you want to frequent a place where MODs are continuously saying, "ok buddy, your limit is reached"? I think, for the most part that there is good content on this forum and that it comes in all varieties. Leave it the way it is. There can be too many changes and as a sign of the times, "change" is not so good.

Yep some people are just slow sometimes(me included), so it takes that long to finally get everything straightened out. Also I know I have read some of the arguments on here that were a dialogue between 2 people and it was pretty good info coming out on both sides. So long conversations are not always a bad thing.
