It's only a penny for your thoughts but here is my 2 cents.

Does M.C. have a better chance at shooting a mature trophy than I do and why? Yes, the fence has allowed him to pass on deer most people on low fence wouldn't because the deer is not going to the neighbors. This point has been covered. He also has the ability to manipulate genetics by shooting unwanted traits and not worry about an inferior deer waliking in a breeding from 2 miles away. So does he have an advantage? Yes. I personally am not a fan but do not have a problem with high fence. Most people even if they had the money for 2600 acre high fence would not devote the enormous amount of time or energy I'm sure it has taken for the Bergers to produce what they have. I take my hat off to them. It's cost them a lot of time and money and now they are reaping the rewards. Unfortunately for them and rightfully so IMO B&C & P&Y will not recognize the animal.

People that are griping about an "unfair" advantage need to talk to someone who hunts public land and I bet to them you have an advantage with the feeders and food plots.

Yeah, and those Yankee public land hunters set up stands on the edges of corn fields and in apple trees too. And then they look down on Texans for hunting feeders.

They don't alienate. They set a High standard that your kill does not meet.

            Hey Good buddy

I am only telling a few things I know........... I am not a P & Y member as I dropped out when I lived in RSA and could not afford the fees. I was in # 11 palce for regular memebrship when I left the USA in 1991 for Africa.

It takes 17 years now to reach Regular memebrship and I wont live that long. But I do qualify with 5 species taken that meet the book reqs. I just don't have the time in grade as they say...

I only posted a few facts........ If the shoe fits, wear it.................

The only suggestion I have made was to register the buck at SCI in the Bowhunting Section

I can't speak for P & Y.......... Mr. MR James, founder of Bowhunter magazine is the current President. Ask Him
            Good Luck

Dang, I have been gone a few hours and this thread has taken a loop!!! Travis, back on the 3rd page of this beastof a thread you asked if this was the original intent of the founders of the clubs for P&Y and B&C. I personally think they didn't even consider any of this when they started the club. IMO they founders actually liked bragging about how big their trophy's were or they would have had no reason to come up with a scoring system. They wanted to be able to have a way to compare animals apples to apples. The flip side of this is that they were true manly men and wanted to be able to say they did it the Teddy Roosevelt way.

I do have to also say that when I was a kid, all I wanted to do was kill a deer. 1 year old 6 point, I would have shot at it, 2.5 year old 8, you betcha!!! I know now that this isn't the best thing if you truely want to have the herd reach it's potential. There are guys out there that could care less about the bone on their head. They just like having the meat in the freezer. I can't blame them for that, that is just their way of life and what they want in hunting. That is the same reason that I dont' have a problem with folks hunting high fenced areas. I would not want to be limited by neighbors either if I owned that much land. I just firmly believe that in this country you should have the right to do whatever it is you want, as long as it doesn't impose on someone elses freedoms.

Txag96, I actually saw a TV show last week about P&Y and how it started. It talked about why they started the scoring system and record book and the bi-annual meetings and everything. It was cool.

They didn't get much public support for the conservation cause at first. Most people were "brown and down" hunters back then, killing everything that walked for either meat or just sport. Nobody wanted to listen to "snobby" trophy hunters.

Several years later, P&Y started the scoring system and record book. And they displayed the record animals in New York. It drew large crowds, and they saw information about why people need to manage and conserve the resources in order to produce more and better quality animals.

This was a BIG hit with the public, and soon after that, laws began changing in Washington, D.C. and states. Wildlife management and conservation efforts gained broad acceptance.

It's kind of ironic that ranches like the Bergers' are doing the same thing today that P&Y advocated from the beginning - managing game for more and higher quality animals and cutting down on over-killing the herd - yet high fence game managers are kept out of the P&Y book.

Shane, I like to see the massive racks on my wall also. I am one of those "arrogant, snobby trophy hunters" When was the show on and do you know if it is coming back on, I would love to see it. I personally try to only shoot mature deer. I am a member of P&Y and have two entries, I am just playing the devil's advocate here and enjoying the discussion. It is very ironic that they are not letting folks in that are trying to make sure that true trophies stay around, but like I said earlier, it is a very slippery slope to define what is ok in a high fence and what isn't, so they are actually forced to take the all or none approach. Just how it is is.

Oh also I quit shooting lumenocks at deer because I didn't want to have that be an issue. I honestly don't think that a lighted nock designed just to let you see your arrow better in flight and find it after the hit easier was something that the original founders could have fathomed, but rules are rules

Sure. I wasn't trying to bust your chops or anything. Like you say, no matter where a line is drawn, somebody is always going to just miss it.

The show was on satellite. I'm on cable, and I get only Versus. It was on one of the other outdoor channels. I don't know if it was the P&Y Club's show or another organization that had something to do with Teddy Roosevelt. Maybe somebody else will know what I'm talking about.
