Sap sucks in during the fall drawing the herbicide in with it. Flow is outward during the spring.

Remedy and soap with diesel. we add the blue grass paint that they use at the golf course. the dish soap made a big difference. Remedy is expensive but it works pretty well. you're gonna have to go back over it every year because you will get new growths.

Last time I checked around my place...Producers Co-op in Bryan had Remedy for I think $75. Somerville Feed Store has it for $72.95 gallon.

I've mixed it to about 15% ratio and got a pretty good kill....20% is a good safe percentage for basal application.

Remedy, Garlon4, and Element4 are all the same chemical, their patent just expired.

For stump treatment I think a 5:1 ratio would be plenty.

Spike granules work well but for 5000 trees I wouldn't recommend granular.

You can find labels and MSDS sheets here fro most products: http://www.cdms.net/LabelsMsds/LMDef...spx?ms=1,2,3,4

Triclopyr(active ingredient in Remedy and others) is the name of a generic line and I've had good results with it. It is usually $40 cheaper than Remedy. Remedy is a great product and will work when appliet right but if you're wanting to spend a little less look around for the one above.

Read this for a description of the different methods and mix ratios from TAMU:

Brush Control Program Brush Busters is a cooperative program of the Texas AgriLife Research and Extension Service to expedite the adoption of Tactical Brush Management Systems (TBMS) technology. Brush Busters methods are easily understood, even by those with little or no previous experience in brush control. We recommend only “select” treatments capable of killing at least 7 out of 10 of the plants treated. Brush Busters methods make every attempt to keep equipment costs and complexity to a minimum, and whenever possible, to use non-restricted herbicides. One-page pamphlets... Read More →

If you want the cut down and gone now then remedy and diesel on a cut stump is hard to beat. If you have time and know someone with an applicator's license or have the time to go take the class to get yours, I use a mix of 5 oz remedy and 5 oz Tordon per gallon of water. Cover the foliage with a sprayer. You will cover 40 acres much faster this way. Any place the sells these chemicals should also sell the blue applicator's dye. If they are all mesquite, do it in June.

If there are huisache, wait until October and use a chemical called Surmount. It's awesome at killing that stuff when sprayed on the foliage.

I'm surprised no one else commented on this yet.
                      Actually a 20% solution would be a 4:1 mixture.

Sorry, I had to point it out.

Sap flows both ways-up and down, whether spring or fall. Water in the roots has to get to the leaves, and the food manufactured in the leaves has to get to the roots.

Tordon works the best not sure if it's still on the market clear pasture also works for foliage application If you go that route depending on height of tree

I am done for the day. Now I see rain is coming so how long does it need to stick before the rain to kill the trees? Supposed to rain tomorrow. I used about a 4-1 ratio of diesel and remedy. Thanks again.
