I Have a 40 acre field with mesquite trees anywhere from 1/2"-4" diameter and I am needing to clean it up. I do not have any equipment except my chainsaw, clippers and small spayer. My question is for those that have used diesel to kill them, how well does it work? I am cutting the trees at the base and immediately spraying it. I have about 5000 more trees to go so I just want to make sure this method works. I was told to add Round Up with the diesel. Should I or not? Thanks

Remedy
Hey RutnBuk.......I feel your pain. What worked for me was Remedy. Its 100 bucks a gallon. You mix it one quart Remedy 3 quarts Diesel. I have done it both ways..spaying leaves and also cutting down tree and then spraying. Both work. Cutting the tree at the base is faster and uses less Remedy. Just make sure its not raining. I don't know about Roundup. I leave a good 12 inches of trunk and then jerk the dead stump out the next year with tractor. I just know Remedy works. You don't want to use it full force or the tree goes into a retreat mode....you want to dilute it with diesel...it tricks the tree as its sucking in the killer Remedy. HAVE FUN!!!

I used Remedy and Reclaim mixed with water and dishwashing soap (no diesel) last year to spray all the mesquites in our senderos and along all the fence lines. I would say I got a 90 % kill ratio on all mesquites that were sprayed. Just spray the entire plant. Remedy and Reclaim are expensive enough with adding the cost of diesel in too. This mixture comes from Texas A&M. Really works!!
