Try your local soil and water conservation district. They can help you formulate a game plan for removal and loan the equipment (with deposit) needed to reach your goals.

You mix with diesel if you spray on the trunk or cut stump.
You mix with water if you spray the leaves.

If you spray diesel on the leaves, it just "burns" the leaves off, and usually won't kill it.

If you have a license, or know someone that does, use Grazon/water. It's alot cheaper and you use less in your mixture. Grazon is about $100 for a 2.5gal bottle.

Keep in mind I am a country boy. Take a Dr. Pepper bottle and cut in half for a 3 gallon sprayer. Thats for the remedy. Pour it in. Fill half of the bottle up with diesel, top off with water. As far as soap and dye I went with the "thats about right method." MAy not be exact but it killed the hell out of the trees.

Yep, it works great. But the best time of year to do this is in the fall right before the plants start to go dormant. Add a little soap and dye as well.

A 3:1 ratio is pretty stout, you can same some money and use a 20% solution which is a 5:1 (diesel:remedy) and still achieve the same affect.

You're most certainly welcome, I knew you would read it and would probably have a difficult time comprehending the concept

huh? i thought the best time was when they first start taking off in the spring. Then the plant is taking in nutrition and water for the growing season? Thats when the plant will take in more killing Remedy. So is that not correct?

Remedy can be applied in any season and have the same effect, we do alot of cut stump treatment of Chinese tallow during the winter because it makes it easier without all the foliage.

I have done it both ways..spaying leaves and also cutting down tree and then spraying. Both work. Cutting the tree at the base is faster and uses less Remedy. Just make sure its not raining. I don't know about Roundup. I leave a good 12 inches of trunk and then jerk the dead stump out the next year with tractor. I just know Remedy works. You don't want to use it full force or the tree goes into a retreat mode....you want to dilute it with diesel...it tricks the tree as its sucking in the killer Remedy. HAVE FUN!!!
Remedy, or Garlon4 will do the job. The best I remember Garlon is cheaper and has the same active ingredient. You do have to apply which ever chemical, (mixed with diesel fuel), you use to the cambium layer, (the narrow white ring on mesquite, between the bark and trunk wood), within 15 minutes after the tree is cut to get the best results. You do not have to spray the entire stump. I'm a commercial applicator here in NM, and did a 35 acre project late last summer with a 4 gallon bac-pak sprayer behind 2 sawers. If your site is really thick, as suggested, use some form of "spray indicator" (dye), so you don't miss anything. READ the MDS sheet that's on the chemical container before you start. Good luck
