I'm going Axis hunting this week. I'll let you know where the vitals are when I put them down for the count!!;p
The vitals are tucked in behind the shoulder more than a whitetail. If you keep your arrow in the crease and mid to lower 1/3 of body you'll catch lungs no problem on broadside shot. If you hit 3 inches back you're looking at liver/gut.

If so that axis was a mutant. Ive killed only several but hulled a pile of em out. Ive never saw axis lungs that far back.

That yellow dot is right about where the diaphram is.

Alot folks think that the shoulder blade is there at that red dot. The bones "kinda" look like a ">" with the dot just above that in that pic, so it's just ribs there.

Those goofy Asian and African animals and they're will to survive big cats

Exactly. That red dot on that Kudu is in the sweet spot!!! That is exacy where i shoot a broadside axis or black buck at. Maybe aim an inch lower.

Here is another pic of the other side.
                            Fact..... No mutant here
Fact...... Double lung (posslbly proven by the bloody mouth and a 40 yard tracking AND the observation upon cleaning)
Now I will agree that this is the extreme, but there are lungs there
Fact.... I have killed my share of axis

I would agree, killed lots of axis really never changed how I shot them. I like to shoot them a little lower and a little farther forward than pic but have shot many in exact same spot.
