Very fun animal to bowhunt. You sure don’t want to put a “tv” shot on one, tough deer.

ID:	27105036 I drew back on this buck three different times in December of 22. He always had axis doe’s in front of him, or never would turn broadside for me. I had him at 15 yards facing me once, and kinda regret not sending one through his chest. I know it would’ve killed him, but I might not have found him. Low fence, small acreage. He was very poor, and had a blown out front ankle. Last time I saw him he was walking on his ankle, not his hoof. He most likely died of old age. Axis are a blast to bow hunt, but harder than whitetails IMO. They just seem to know you’re there, even if everything is perfect.

I’ve got a few that I’m looking forward to seeing in person soon. A couple non typical ones really have my attention.

Following! On a new lease this year north of Rocksprings. Shot a a nice buck on my BIL's place in Hunt a few years back, but hoping to finally get one with a bow.

Heck yeah! Killing one with a bow is a major accomplishment

most anyone can kill one with a smoke pole. I’ve been blessed to see some true monsters at ranges of 300 yds plus that would be very easy. I can see that my bow hunting may be coming to an end so I won’t bash hunting them with rifles because I may be doing that in the not so distant future.

Dang A/C!!!!! That non typical in the first pic might be one of the coolest axis bucks I’ve ever seen! Hope you or one of your crew gets a crack at him!!!!!

We’ve gotten a bunch of rain the last 10days, including more last night. I’ll not complain about rain here as we needed it badly, but new green growth tends to (and has) make the axis quit coming to the feeders. It’ll get dry again, and they will be back, but once they start fighting they tend to all have something broke off around here. I’m really hoping I get a crack at my #1 target before he breaks points off.

Start with good fresh green leafy alfalfa! I would feed it heavy in the morning and just a quarter of a sleeve in a few different places during the evening. You don’t want them smart summaguns coming in After dark to eat them goodies.

What’s wild is that they just seem to come in and grab a bit and take off. The WT wiped my alfalfa feeder out yesterday. We just have so many WT that even 1000 of CS won’t last us a week. And the axis too lol I’ll go dang broke!

WT can get out of hand fast but Axis can double that. Pick your passion- get your priorities right and shoot for Broke

“ A Bit “ is long enough Archer! Giterdun
