Fishing is not allowed on that floating pier, but people try to fish it. If the rangers happen to make a turn through the park, they will ticket the fishermen. Seen it happen many times... Seen almost fights break out when boaters approach the pier to tie up so they can go get their trailers to take their boat out of the lake. Folks set up there fishing, and a boater comes in and they go ballistic...
Plenty signage posted that clearly prohibits fishing from that pier.

If you want to give that area another try, you can take a short walk through the woods behind where the pier/ramp is and there's a very nice cove with good bank fishing when the lake is full. I've seen a LOT of great catfish in that cove in the Springtime when I used to bowfish that lake!

You are correct. Just to the left of the ramp when facing the lake, there was a really nice patch of grass with a bulkhead. Looked like a decent spot to fish with kids, and my father in law who isn't the steadiest on his feet from bad knees. If I was alone, the openings along the trail would have been perfect.

Guess we need to make some time to get back out there now that it is warmed up. We hit Conroe a lot for quick trips in the summer either kayak or boat. 9 year olds personal best cat last August. Drug him around for a while in the kayak trying to fight it on a small Zebco. Was a great show watching him struggle/have fun with it.

Me and momma had a good little trip this morning. Caught a nice mess of cats and 5 hybrids including a huge hybrid. All the hybrids were released. The shad came in this morning right at daylight. First trip so far I seen them come in pretty good. Click image for larger version

We stayed there for several hours with only 3 and they were all at once. Left for a couple hours, came back and only caught 3 more all about the same few minutes.

Later in the afternoon I think I figured a style out that may have produced more. Used a tiny 2” cork and slowly reeled with the minnow hooked in the face to make it “swim”

Nice work hogslayer78! My plan is daylight Sunday morning. Thinking the 830 ramp.

That's where I launched this morning and ran straight across the lake and fished main lake bulk heads off points. Shad came in and so did the hybrids blowing up the bulkheads. Pulled out my net caught all I needed in 1 throw. I caught most of the cats today on cut shad also. Cut the heads off and tails and fish with the body. The hybrids were hammering them. Still on the bottom with Carolina rig. I had one rod with a cork and caught 2 cats the rest of the cats and hybrids were on the bottom right against the bulkheads.

Good luck this weekend man! We would definitely be back this weekend too but my wife and I fly out for Vegas tomorrow for our 28th wedding anniversary.

Hit 830, didn’t leave a half mile from it. 730 to 1130. Chicken livers. 25 perfect size channels. A beautiful morning.
