Last week a kid (when 23 became a kid to me, Im not sure) posted on the Sabine fishing Facebook group asking for some advice. He’s a boilermaker who was working on pleasure island for a couple weeks and couldn’t figure out the trout. I gave him a couple of pointers and he ended up messaging me with some more questions. He kept trying, but still wasn’t having any luck. I met up with him Sunday evening and I caught 3 keepers plus a fat 22-incher that I gill hooked and had to throw back, but he still didn’t catch any. I stopped by one last spot and caught one on my first cast right at dark, and gave him an idea of where to fish the next day. Yesterday he caught close to 15 keepers plus a nice slot red at that spot. Tonight I made it back out there and the wind was killer, but we fished a new spot I’ve found that is out of the wind and nickel and dimed out a nice two man limit of fat trout. He got laid off today and is heading home tomorrow, but I’m glad I got him hooked on saltwater before he left. He’s getting up and fishing in the morning before he leaves. Here’s our fish from this evening:2 Photos
