QB, The old school mirroluer in 808 was a killer! The DD is one of the hard baits I use year round. You will love it.

That clown is a great color.
I threw the rebel jumping minnow and the broken backs back in the day. I loved the Bingos and Hogie hard baits in the surf. Had a friend pass away years ago and he left me like 20 trays of old Mirrolures.

Back in the day when the original broken backs were offered I purchased two colors- Root beer and strawberry. I coagulated most of my larger fish on them . I mostly threw soft baits and spoons before even thinking about mid floaters or top waters . Now , after breaking both wrist , I can’t work top waters , or jerk baits so I have to depend on my traps and slow worked soft baits. Those old broken backs were awesome

Buck- try throwing a “wake bait”. It is easy to throw and fish eat them

One day I might muster the brain power to throw hard baits all day and see. Confidence in the bait is huge for me (and most I think). Ill cast what I know I catch fish on I guess

Quack- I had a guy fishing topwater with me and I missed two big trout blowups. He tied one of these “wake baits” on and hammered a 25 and 27 in next 10 minutes. When I topwater fish I have one tied on another rod for days they are short striking or swirling the tops

Glen, I bought a lot of the Rapala twitch shad or twitch raps when they discontinued them. They are killers in the salt. If you have lights on a pier not much is better. Work them fast or slow. Whatever fish are in the mood for.

Broken backs will sure catch fish, they just fell from popularity when the topwater craze hit in the 90's. When I was a kid topwaters were not a thing here at all but broken backs were the hot bait of the day. I fished them a bunch back in the 80's. My favorite was the Storm Jointed Thunderstick. The hot color was the Texas Chicken, pearl silvery sides with a pink back and yellow belly. I always liked silver with a black back and gold with a black back too. They cast a little better than the Rebel. The Rebel probably has a better action. And you have to work them, lots of people use to try to fish them like a crank bait and just cast and reel, that isn't how they produce the best. You need a little stiffer rod to fish them well, they will wear you out on a light action trout rod if you are fishing them right.

I got a couple Cordell Redfin in the box still. Can't remember the last time I used them though.

Saltwater is off to a slow start this year due to weather and complicated schedule. Been staying in freshwater more but have caught a few.

Wife and I made a wade this morning. Got to a walk in spot with 2 other trucks parked and 2 guys where we wanted to start. Change of plans.

Incoming tide, green water, tons of bait, 10-15 mph S wind.

Didn’t catch very many fish, but we had some good enough to stink up some grease. In total I landed 3 trout, and 5 redfish. Wife landed 7 trout.

                        Released a Trout about 26.5” 6.5lbs.
She came out the water on the hookset and started head shaking. She buried her head and peeled about 20 yards of line. After that run I checked my drag thinking I might have loosened it at some point. Nope. She just had chingos of fight in her. Brought her in, took a quick pic then cut her loose.

3 casts later in the same hole, felt a good thump, set the hook, a trout about 22-23” started tail walking. Peeled some drag, then did a couple tarpon flips spitting the hook on one of em. I just about cried. This dang trout looked like a football, she had some shoulders on her for sure.

Someone was getting “Hangry”, so we left shortly thereafter. 🤣

Redfins were good too. I use to throw the smaller size redfin in gold/black back a bunch.
