Grandparent nicknames - what do you use?

I threw out “Just call me Bob!” the other day.
My wife and daughter both looked at me crazy-like. My first name is Ken and of course the last name is Mack…they both forgot my middle name is Robert!

My first and middle names begin with K. I also wear a cap everyday except Sunday mornings. Therefor my GP name is Kappy. Which my older grandkids have turned into Kapps.

Opa & Oma was what we called our Paternal Grandparents. They immigrated from Germany in the early 30's.

Maternal grandparents we called Grandpa & Grandma

My wife and I will be first time grandparents in April. Our youngest of two sons is having a baby girl. A first for us as we had two boys and my sister has two boys. That being said, I have decided to be Papa-T and my wife is Coco. We cannot wait to love on our little “Reese Rae White!”

My dad was determined to be PeePaw, and held my nephew up tirelessly saying “PeePaw”. My nephew would look at him and say “PawPaw” in return every time. Needless to say, he’s still PawPaw 30 years later

Nicknames for grandparents can be cute, but I don’t do cute. Ever. However, I’m not particularly crazy about traditional “grandparent” names, either. I can’t imagine myself being called grandma, granny, meemaw, mawmaw…or any iteration thereof, for that matter. My hair turns grey just thinking about it.

We had this same conversation several years ago in my family and I told everyone that I simply wanted to be called by my first name. My sisters and I called my paternal grandparents by their first names, as did their children. My thinking was that whatever worked for Sue and Herb (my grandparents) was good enough for me.

Unfortunately, my husband put the “big quietus” on that notion so, now, I’ve just decided to let my future grandkids call me by my initials.

For my Grandparents, on my mom's side was just "Grandma". It was really confusing to me when I was little, because my cousins would call her "Grandma Liz". Was in my mid teens before I realized why. On my Dad's side, was Grandpa and "Grandma Blanche". Interestingly.... both my dad's mom and my dad's step mom were named Blanche, so I had two of them.

My daughter calls my dad "Grandaddy"(since that's what he called his grandfather) and my stepmom "Grammy"(was picked by step mom's other grandkids).
My wife's parents are "Pops and Lolli", and they picked it. That was a lot of fun watching them compete on who got her to say it first.
