I had things that had to be done this morning, a Dr. appointment, get the mail, etc. and I just got in the room ten minutes ago. After circling the parking garage like a buzzard for twenty minutes I was about to give up. I spied me a woman walking in the garage and I stalked her like a perv thinking she was headed to her car. No joy, she had already parked !😖 I circled some more and finally found a spot to park. I got in the elevator and pushed the wrong floor for the skywalk, then finally found the right one. Looked like the fourth stooge ! I’m here now though and she’s trying to sleep. She’s still on pain meds and at this time I think she ain’t going anywhere today. She’s tough though, sometimes too tough for her own good. Thanks again everyone for your kindness !

Glad to hear she's on the mend! Who wound up doing the surgery, Dr. C, T or M?

In my experience, if they haven’t started your discharge papers by 9 AM, you’re stuck until the next day. Geez!

                Dr. T did the surgery.

Thanks Daron, I’ll holler if I need you to run the weed whacker ! 😬

Shawn, the PT guy was in just now and I think we are all in agreement that she’s going to rehab for a week or so, hopefully tomorrow or the next, depending on how quickly the insurance company responds.

Inpatient rehab? If so, thats’s great. Those folks can work miracles.

She had quite a bit of pain this afternoon, having to get up to pee and soforth. Someone told her that the third day was usually the worst and that’s tomorrow. Lord, I hope not. I think this the roughest thing on her since childbirth.

Sure hate hearing she’s so uncomfortable. What they say is true about the third day being worse, at least that’s always been the case for me. I imagine it’s because, by the third day, the last of the anesthesia has been metabolized by the body and, with it, go all the pain mitigation properties.

That said, there is no need for your wife to suffer needlessly. My suggestion to you is to ask her surgeon what his plans are for pain management once she moves to rehab, then ask about options should the first line pain meds not work. I would also say that, while there are those who eschew “Big Pharma” and the narcotic pain meds they produce, you should not hesitate to use them if nothing else works. Your wife had major invasive surgery and that’s what these drugs are for.

My wife is a retired orthopedic surgical nurse and trauma nurse... Her advice is similar to Shawn's above... What she's been through is THE VERY REASON those strong pain meds were invented... USE THEM. Do not wait until the pain is bad. Try to get ahead of it. Pain is much easier to manage once you get ahead of it before it gets bad...

Lord we ask You to ease Janie's pain and give her comfort. Give her peace knowing she is in good hands of people that You especially picked out for just this trial. Take care of her Lord in Jesus name, Amen1

Agree totally with Mrs. Slick’s advice. I have always been told that getting ahead of the pain—and staying there—is more important to improving your situation than worrying about the fact that you’re taking them. The members of your care team are professionals. They are not in the pockets of Big Pharma, their motive is nothing more than providing best patient care. Listen to the professionals, ask questions and share concerns if you have them, but listen to them.

As a humorous aside, when we asked about the drugs used in my recent anesthesia cocktail, one of them was fentanyl. The anesthesiologist, who had a great sense of humor, followed that quickly by saying, “Don’t worry. We don’t get ours from Mexico.”

                            BAAH haha haaa!!!

They are giving her tramadol, but like most hospitals they are understaffed and over populated. They don’t always respond on time. We had a little come to Jesus meeting this afternoon and I think things are gonna go better now. I won’t go into details except to say sometimes you have to show your teeth to make sure that folks understand that you’ll bite.

                                Amen, sir.
