You've obviously never been in an area with a large population of them. Of the estimated 4 million in Texas I think 3 million live in Brazoria county. You never see just one pig they come in groups of 40+ here.

It should be interesting (as I suspect this thread will blow up) to compare/contrast responses here to the wolf thread. Where mostly neither party has financial interest. But will seemingly want the same thing, for opposing reasons. Some amount of hypocrisy is imminent

I would be happy. Theres still squirell, dove, waterfowl, yotes, and trapping. I also dont care if they are all gone as long as there on yalls property and not mine.

obviously you have no idea where I hunt. I've seen them say more than 5 million in Texas and I've seen articles where they say more than 8 million. Seems high to me.

Yeah, I took the day off cuz I'm not feelin good. Actually, we've gotten a reasonable amount if rain. Most of the tanks are doing well and it's surprisingly green. Actually, there's so much to eat the hogs are not hitting the corn real hard and I can't find ANY rooting in a single oat patch. Lots of rooting in the brush, though. Looks line a bright green carpet everywhere.

We could use a flood rain, though- to top off the tanks and get the river running again.

I would venture to say that most of the people wanting the hogs to stay don't own land and make their living from it.As far as letting people come on my land we trap from 5 to 20 at a time so I don't think someone wanting one for meat will help much.

Or organized a big free hunt to help you get rid of a bunch of the hogs that are costing you money? Or do you let anyone that asks hunt hogs on the property? All ways that you could help control the hogs that are costing you money at ZERO cost to you.

Please don't take me wrong- I'm not trying to single you out! Just pointing out that the ONLY FREE way to help control feral hogs on a property is the LEAST used option available! If a landowner is truly being hurt by hogs and utilizes ALL available options to control them, which includes opening it up to hog hunters for free, then I have sympathy. But for some reason that I can't fathom, MOST people who complain how much hogs are costing them either won't let people hunt them on their property or want to charge a premium price for the "privilege!" I don't see a valid complaint about hogs when landowners/farmers/ranchers don't exhaust all options including the free one.
I don't feel you're singling me out We do let many friends and family hunt for pigs if they ask us. However, saying it is "free" is a stretch> Especially when you don't live on the property. It takes time to take people to the property, show them where to hunt , often times with them, etc. Don't get me wrong, I take dozens of people hunting a year, But you can still only allow so much without stretching yourself too thin on time.

Also, letting inexperienced hunters go hunt all they want will yield in a small dent on the population compared to trapping, heli hunts, doggers etc.

Yea I agree, Jeff. I've seen a sow have a littler in late Dec and then another litter in late Nov. That's the closest I've ever seen to a sow having "2-3 litters a year". But they say litters of 4-8 piglets. I've seen a sow have 16 piglets! All but 1 made it too!

Yep, always in the dead of winter. So odd!

We own ours. I still want them to stick around. For hunting and sustenance.

Probably has to do with the environment and caring capacity of the area. Don't kno where TXPWD gets their data.

Own ours too and happy to have the pigs that we have. But we are not crop farmers and I can understand how the pigs would have an impact on their crops. That is why we have farm subsidies, we give millions to our nations farmers NOT to grow crops. You can also insure your crops, if you have damage or a failed crop you just right it off.
