When I ran in a marathon I found out how important shoes are. I now wear Asics

        Running Shoes

I've run 19 Marathons, 6 - (1/2) marathons and numerous 10k's and 5ks. Have never worn anything but Asics. Like others said, go to a good running store and try on several pairs. These just happen to work for me !

Reebok Zigs or whatever they are called with the funny soles. I bought a pair at Academy, they had them on sale for $69. They are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. Went back and bought a second pair.

I get shin splints really bad and I'm sure being heavy is part of it but I remember when I was in shape I still got them. Is there a brand of shoe that you recommend maybe something for absorbing some of the shock while running? I'm looking to spend the money on a great pair of shoes but need to find someone that has used them before to give me info instead of just taking a chance of picking a decent pair. Thanks
After 20 years of Ironmans, half irons, marathona etc. What I have learned is what works for one does not work for another. You need to go to a reputable running shop and get fitted. Your gait, weight, distance, running surface will determine your shoes. Work out/cross fit type shoes are completely different different from running shoes.

as mentioned go get fitted. I have a bad knee from playing ball and always just bought shoes from the department/athletic stores and decided about 2 yrs ago after reading a similar thread on here that I would try to not be a cheap ***** and see what happened. I cant believe the huge difference buying high quality shoes does for me. First pair were new balance 990 and now I have some brooks that have a different arch that helps rotate my knee position to hurt less. sucks when the wife and I need new shoes and I have to shell out $300 but in the long run it is worth it

I found out that if you eat at long John silvers that any shoe you is wearing will become running shoes.

I went and got fitted at a running store in the metroplex a few years ago and they ended up putting me in some Asics that I loved...been a new balance guy most of my life because I have such wide feet.

My experience: I went in, the guy asked me to take my shoes and socks off so he could measure. Once I got them off he looked down, his eyes got real big, and he almost yelled "Good lord, you don't have feet, you have bear paws"...so naturally everyone in the store had to walk by and see...pretty embarrassing!!haha
