    Running shoe ?

I've started working out and running fairly regular but would like to see what kind of shoes you guys recommend for running? I get shin splints really bad and I'm sure being heavy is part of it but I remember when I was in shape I still got them. Is there a brand of shoe that you recommend maybe something for absorbing some of the shock while running? I'm looking to spend the money on a great pair of shoes but need to find someone that has used them before to give me info instead of just taking a chance of picking a decent pair. Thanks

Go to runtex (or similar, idk what's in your neck of the woods). Someone that can fit you, watch you walk/run, etc. Hoping to solve your problems here is a crapshoot, imo, as no one can see you.

Or just try on as many as you can and make a day of it walking around academy.

I dealt with the shin splints when I was in the Marines. I found Asics to be the most comfortable for me. Nikes killed me. But that was just my experience.

I am a big guy as well and I have always ran in the New Balance 990 series.

                  I highly recommend them.

I like my Adidas pretty well...Brooks are my all time favorite, most comfortable running shoes.

                        asics nimbus 11

Thay have newer models out now, but it's a great running shoe. It has asymetrical laces and is very comfortable for running.

not all running shoes are created equal..it also depends on whether you have a high arch or a low arch, narrow or wide foot...as for shin splints it could be because you arent running properly and having your heel strike first , if the ball of your foot hits first you will create shock to the calf and shin ...grab a copy of runners world or similar publication and see which shoes are rated best, then go to see which shoe fits you best for the type of running you do...street, trail, track

I used to wear New Balance until I switched to Brooks.
I am a heavy runner, usually around 280-300 lbs here and found the Brooks to be the most comfortable, the Beast are the most stable, but the Addictions provide more cushion and are more flexible. I've found the Beast allow me to be sloppy(tired) in my running form without incurring strain or injury.
I also have the Brooks Adrenaline 10- they were super comfortable and made running easy for me.

After using all three, I've found the Beast to be the best for me because they don't break down as quick. My last pair will get retired this week when my new pair get here.

Get fitted it will make a huge difference. Lukes locker or Fleet Feet are two companies that come to mind.

I used to where whatever looked good at Academy but as my mileage increased I noticed lots of discomfort. After I got into the right shoe I am pounded out lots of miles with no pain.

I personally where Brooks Ghost as my long distance trainers and have some lighter Mizunos for shorter 3-5mile type races.
