Checked on this earlier in the season. We had a 130 class buck in a hog trap (not mine)in October.Had a broken jaw,had to be dispatched. There needs to be a law against this, lost a good buck.

Cant you just put up a sign that says "No Deer Allowed"? They'll see it and know they arent welcome.

I have never seen a trap without a top. (Havent been around traps much- obviously). The "prison" style with the 1-1/2' ring around the top sounds like it would work, while still allowing deer to jump out...

Bingo, same with allot of police officers & civilians as well.
I think it is not possible to know every law. Only possible to use common sense.

You have not trapped many pigs if you have never seen a pig jump or climb out of a trap or trailer.

most store bought ones have roof panels. I have never bought a trap, we always built our own so we never put a top on them.

As far as them climbing out, I would rather have one or two hogs climb out than kill one deer in a trap.

I had a 155lb boar in my cattle trailer 2 days ago that jumped up and broke out the window of my trailer.

Works awesome too... Or throw an old diesel fuel filter in there full of corn same principal

Quite possibly one of the most disrespectful posts I've ever seen on here.

still in need for the answer to this. just spent half a hour looking to find the rule. did not. was told early last year that all hog traps must have a means for deer to escape the trap. the traps ive seen all had closed tops. so still fuzzy on what to do. knowing that you must dispatch all hogs traped to prevent the cross of diseases from one to another. but seen hogs find a small way out the top of a trap.

Our traps are designed so that the trip wire is tied to a plank that sits under a large rock. The only way to spring the trap is to root the rock up. That keeps it from catching anything but hogs.
