    Hog trap question

Our buddy we hunt with called us today to tell about his coworkers incident over the weekend. The game warden stopped by their camp as they were heading out to check a trap. The warden tagged along. There was a deer in the trap so after releasing the deer, the warden fined him and made him cut the roof off the trap. Said the warden wouldn't leave until they found something to remove the top and saw that it was done.

I understand it's against the law to trap deer but that was not the target. Has something changed now and says traps can not have tops to prevent trapping deer?

Never owned a hog trap with a roof for this very reason. I helped a buddy get a deer out of a store bought trap ONCE................. just about got my arm broke!

NEVER have a roof on your hog traps!

Need to know if the law required roofless traps.

i think the regs changed last year. on complet cover on a trap. sounds odd. as you cant let any wild hogs be let go after being captured in a trap.

                    Maybe that's the idea.

i just called TXPWD on this and they said there is no law on hog traps having a top. if you trap a deer, you could be subject to investigation and you could be subject to a fine.

                        Ain't my trap

I travel WAY to much to trap any more. I don't even own a hog trap these days.

Moral of the story? Don't go check your hog traps with the GW. Lesson learned.

Sounds like the gw does not know the law.
